GT55 94mm Build - Crap
#21
LOL. Between that last pic, an unexpected stay at the hospital in January, and a very busy work year (good thing), it isn't running yet, but has finally picked up steam. Car is stripped down and going for a cage/chute on Thursday. Other items purchased:
-LSX Block
-Dragonslayer stock stroke
-Callies Ultra I-beams
-Wiseco pistons - 377ci, 8.5scr
-BTR TFS 245 HIP'd 6-bolt heads and related components
-Everything else besides the eventual Cartek cam
-Squash dual pump setup (running gas)
-Need to order rest of fuel items
-82034801293 other odds and ends are in ready to go
The nice thing is now that the car is going for the cage, once I get it back I will finally be putting it back together instead of tearing it apart. I will be cleaning up the engine bay and spraying it base/clear. The hot-side needs to go get coated. I have most of the engine, but need to get the machine work rolling. Also need to do a lot of little tedious BS, like cleaning up the wiring harness and figuring out a way to mount it cleanly, installing sound deadener, etc. Now that I'll actually have progress to show, I'll start posting up here more. Goal is to have the car completed by late fall (before my wedding, HAHA).

Well it's a nasty build to say the least. I almost have my car ready for the track, but it's louder than I as thinking, big cam, single downpipe out fender. And found your build with full exhaust so I was just curious.

I built a similar exhaust on my last car (410"/s88) and it didn't seem to hurt performance. My current turbo is quite a bit more capable and I'm sure the full 4" will hurt performance especially if/when I ever work the turbo, but it's worth it to me to have the "quiet" comfortable ride. Of course, everybody's idea of comfort is different, that's just me.

First off - I am SO jealous of your garage space and the lift. I hate you.
Second - car build is amazing
Third (question) - How is that aluminum exhaust going to hold up? I wanted to do the same but 6061 starts to anneal at ~750-800 deg. So I considered just doing the last, say 1/3 of the car, but figured it wasnt even worth the trouble at that point, and could fatigue and crack at some point. I would have probably tried getting ahold of something thicker, like a 12-14 gauge tubing.

Thanks guys, much appreciated.
As far as the aluminum exhaust goes, the aluminum starts a decent distance back from the turbo where it would otherwise get blasted. The EGTs should cool down significantly by the time it reaches the aluminum. I'm seeing a lot of guys running aluminum right off the turbo, though a lot of the have much shorter and less restrictive exhaust than myself. The big thing with mine was to make sure it was mounted nice and sturdy. When it's all tightened up, I can literally do pull-ups on the thing without it budging. I'm interested to hear how it sounds for sure, and I can tell you it's a HELL of a lot lighter than my very similar steel exhaust setup.

Thanks guys. The car hasn't been ran yet with this setup, but I don't anticipate any issues with boost creep. I've had similar wastegate placements before and it was never an issue. The exhaust will be forced into the gate the way it is routed.
