The signal generated directly from the speed sensor that is in the side of the 4l60e & 4l80e is an a/c sine wave, the problem is that the voltage increases as the speed increases. At idle in 1st gear the output is low like 1 volt, but in OD @ 3000 rpm the signal is over 13 volts... As I understand it, the Gold box has an internal signal conditioner on the Cam signal input and the Crank signal input, that converts it so that it is alway Zero volts or 5 volts, but none of the other inputs have that signal conditioner. jbperf.com has more details
Sounds like an Arduino can fix that. Simply connect the VSS to a oscilloscope, toothwheel in a drill press, monitor output. Send output into a arduino and send ARD output through a MOSFET driver. Cheesey easy.
$40 for the little gadget from jbperf, I had considered trying to use two zener diodes to clip the wave, but EE is not my thing, and I expect I would end up letting the special smoke out of the gold box...
