Default Balancer Wobble on Torque Down

Hi,
I have a weird issue - on a G8 with a procharger the balancer and blower pulley was wobbling. Replaced with a new stock balancer which worked fine for a year. Wobble returned making the fan belt squeak and trashed the blower belt. Crank bolt was loose.
So when I removed the procharger pulley the balancer ran true with the bolt finger tight. Put the procharger pulley back on and torqued the bolt to 240. The wobble returned. Removed the procharger pulley and the wobble was still there. Loosened the bolt - wobble still there.
Has anyone experienced wobble on torque down? Could the torque be causing it to seat off centre? Any suggestion apart from a 10 pound hammer

Is your balancer pinned?

Ahh, the glorious wonders of a "pinning kit".

On a serious note though, you say you put a new balancer on and it is fine for a year then it starts wobbling, or are they all wobbling now?

Take the pin out, install the balancer and torque the bolt down without the pin. If no wobble then that may be part of the problem. However, a balancer should have a pretty decent press fit on the crank snout. About the only way to make if wobble is if the damn thing is bent.

Yep this stock balancer with the procharger pulley piggy backing is driving me crazy!
The whole assembly seemed to be fine for a year then started wobbling. The bolt was finger tight so I am assuming the balancer moved some to cause this. The crazy part is when I removed the procharger piggy back pulley the stock balancer ran true with no torqueing. Now that I torqued even after taking the bolt and the procharger pulley off it wobbles.
I will try measure the depth of the balancer in the crank snout. Pulling the whole balancer is what I was trying to avoid as I don't have a pull tool and don't wanna move the radiator etc but it might be the only option.

You torque the new balancer back on with old bolt to 250ft lbs. Then use a new bolt to 37lbs then twist 140 degrees.

I will post a picture - the pin does stick out of the crank snout and is flush with the deepest edge of the balancer - so perhaps when torqueing the one side is retained by the pin while the other side goes in slightly to cause it to run out?
It is the front mount pin.

If the bolt is making contact with the dowel before the crank snout, it will more than likely push the pulley on crooked after initial contact.

Would heating it up and trying to tap the dowel in help? Last idea before taking it to a shop with a pulling tool.

If that dowel was gonna move, it would move under the torque of bolting it down, worth a shot though before spending some money! You can always rent the tool from your local parts house

Looks like one of the three ''spokes'' of the balancer is cracked.

The factory balancer is crap. I had a new balancer explode on me recently. Damaged alot of stuff when it let go and getting it off at that point was a pain! Running sub 7k redline no additional blower pulleys etc. Start with an aftermarket SFI rated balancer IMO.

G8 balancers are crap. The rubber lets go and the outer ring shifts. The wobble probably wiggled the bolt loose. The pin is too close for my liking but even then it would only keep the balancer from pressing on all the way. No way it would **** a press fit hub. Go aftermarket and call it a day.

Any idea what the cheapest SFI rated aftermarket pulley/balancer is? I looked for an all in one (I am running the 8 rib serpentine procharger pulley made for the stock balancer) and could only find a powerbond all in one with 8 ribs but that doesn't have the aircon belt grooves.
So I am assuming I need an aftermarket balance and then an 8 rib add-on which fits it?
