5.3 Turbo Build List Questions
I am looking to boost my 71 Chevelle with a 5.3L engine. I am looking to for advice and information regarding my build list. My goal is 10 PSI for DD around 600whp. I do not autocross or go to a drag strip just a cool ride.
Part List:
Anything else I missed? Thank you.
Part List:
- Z06 Cam (any particular year and which colored springs best)
- LS9 Head Gasket
- 80lbs Deka Injectors (Which model? I notice there are different 80 lbs models)
- Ebay Gt45
- Tial Waste Gate 50mm
- ARP Head Bolts (What Part #)
- Stall (what is your recommendation)
- Trans cooler (any particular brand better)
- Intake (I have seen all over the board, what is the best intake for performance)
- TB (Should I get a ported)
Anything else I missed? Thank you.

Get 80 Dekas that match the injector connectors on your harness.
ARP head bolts aren't needed at that power level.
If you have a cowl hood, run a truck style intake.

trick flow 228/230 or zo6 cam fine
use Chinese studs
winners choice convertor or 450 ptc unit
biggest cooler you can find or one with a fan
truck intake fine.
don't worry about TB unless you find one cheap
Source turbo parts from Viren at VSracing.net . awesome guy to deal with and parts are great for budget builds

Major major difference between that trick flow cam and z06 cam. I would never go that big with a cam on a 5.3 and a GT45. The smaller 216/220 trick cam would be a better fit.

1. Like I said before, get the Deka 80s that match your injector plug. That is the main difference in all of the 80 lb deka injectors. Can't give you a part number without knowing which plug you have.
2. Don't overthink it. I run a knockoff 44mm Tial from eBay. I could have ran a 38mm and been fine because I have optimal wastegate placement and never plan on going below 11 PSI or so. The larger the wastegate, the lower the boost you can hold without it climbing. Don't plan on running 5 PSI? You don't need a huge gate.
3. Again, ARP head bolts match which block you have. Depends on the year. There are only 2 styles. Equal and Unequal length. That should narrow it down.
4. Converter depends on your driving habits. Everyone recommended a 3200 stall for my build so that is what I got. I drive the car more than any of my other cars, so I kind of regret not going to a 2800 stall. You never said which trans you run, either.
You seem to be looking for some magic formula or exact part numbers. If it was that easy, they would be posted all over the forums and nobody would ever have to guess what to use.
