Default Turbo L33 build. Need Advise.

Hey guys,
I'm wanting to build an L33 for 800hp and need some advice on what to use. Saw that a stock l33 block can take it, but should i build the bottom end? What heads and cam would be good for what i'm looking for? Turbo size? Turbo kit? Was looking at getting the LSXR intake and 102mm throttle body. Will need to be street-able.
Thanks!

You are overthinking it. If you only want 800 crank hp. A stock 5.3 thats been checked out will be fine. Use a LJMS Turbo Cam and stock 317 heads (they flow great and lower compression). Run a 7675 turbo and be happy. As for intake manifold just use a LS1/6 and stock throttle body. No need to buy an expensive intake manifold. They are a giant waste until you start moving serious air and have a cam/heads/turbo/gearing combo spec'd for it.

Thanks a lot! What would be good heads to swap to?

Why not use the heads that came on it?
I suppose if running pump gas the lower CR might be a benefit.
If you have hood clearance use the truck intake.

It's a crapshoot installing an engine in straight from the boneyard. I took mine apart, thoroughly cleaned and inspected everything, re-gapped the top rings and reassembled. Same bearings rings etc.

I just took it apart after two years running and racing. Maybe 800 WHP? Whatever it takes to go 149 in a 3400lb 69 Nova.

I'm going to do a post on what I found.

Ron

There are lots of us here with very fast L33s.

With my experience, I would say just run it. I ran mine at 20 PSI on a regular basis. Once it got cold, I turned it up to 22. Its been 14 degrees here in the mornings and I still drive my Nova almost every day. This is all on 93 pump with windshield washer fluid being sprayed as a backup.

I've ran it as high as 27 PSI. Its still running like a champ...

Start small. Low boost. Work your way up. If you get greedy with it, even with forged internals it would blow up.

Kit?
I think unless you have a Camaro, you build your own kit.

All of the LS engines are the same externally. Find a kit that fits your car and you're all set.

I'm looking forward to seeing it, when do you think you'll have it up?

Does turbo placement really matter? Like for weight distribution? I've seen a lot that put the turbo right in front of the motor and a few where the turbo is on one side with long manifold from the other.

Put the turbo wherever it is most convenient. Simple as that
