Can a bad tune blow a head gasket?

In all seriousness, a bad tune can easily kill a HG. Too much timing or fueling that is out of whack leads to cylinder pressure that will lift a head and destroy the gasket. Also, where the power comes in the RPM range and bore size have a lot to do with when you will lift heads.

Indeed. Timing overly advanced can lead to some stupid high cylinder pressures which will kill a HG in no time flat

So some internet posts are going to override someone who's actually inspected an engine or maybe tuned it ?

Just because a bad tune can cause HG failure...doesnt mean it was the cause, or there arent a dozen other reasons for failure.

As Stevieturbo said... Good luck trying to get a place that tuned your car to replace or fix your head gasket over a tune. Realistically you yourself should be able to fix/replace it. It's realistically not difficult or all that costly of a fix. What you should be praying for is that you didn't bust a ringland. Then you might be SOL. Either way hard to blame on a tune. Problem is if one part goes bad can throw a tune off causing another issue. It's a domino effect. Even if it was tune. It's kinda at your risk putting life of motor in tuners hands my friend. That's why a good tuner that's well known like For example Jim isn't cheap to come by. Just some food for thought.

John Holmes is dead.
Bears **** in the city now.
Coyotes do too.....

First HG I lost was caused by poor surface job. Finish was too coarse. LS1 MLS stockers.

Second set I lost was due to poor choice of gaskets. Hey, it was an experiment. We tried!

After all that, I had the heads resurfaced and lapped smooth. Learnings from a local shop that does 1000 WHP Hondas and 1500 WHP GTR's.

Used LS9 gaskets and all is good.

Deck surface will play the same role.

Timing, AFR, Fuel used, engine temp......big list!

These other guys know more than me. I'm learning the hard way. But my tune was good.
Just took it apart after running 9.20's, zero signs of distress on the ls9 gaskets
