Default Weird stuttering and lean condition at low boost.

So I was cruising around tonight since the weather was halfway decent and some guys pulled up beside me and wanted me to hit for them. I did and got an instant lean condition followed by a backfire when I let out seeing the lean condition.

It also started doing a stuttering when you could hear the turbo start spooling but not necessarily in boost. I then noticed my LED for my Methanol kit was not coming on either. I went home and started looking over the car and checked all of my wires going to Methanol kit and couldn't find anything and then tested the kit with the controller and it sprayed fine.

Then I took the car back out and tested it again and this time everything was fine. Hit 18 pounds and my LED went green. So the question I have is what the hell happened? I didn't fix anything and it started working fine. I am a little confused and a little concerned.

This is a 408 with a BW S476 and an Alky Control kit.

Thanks

Anyone have any ideas on this? I was thinking it might be all methanol related but my kit wouldn't be spraying at really low rpm and no boost would it?

How is the kit actuated? Boost pressure?

I didn't set it up but I think so. That's why I don't think it could all be methanol related.

I'd say since it's cleared up, just drive it and see what it does. It could have been a fluke thing. Maybe something got stuck open, etc.

The problem with figuring out what happened is not being able to repeat the problem. If you can't duplicate what happened, there's no way to diagnose what went on.

Agreed. I was just hoping by chance someone had a similar issue.

Obviously something happened. Mechanics are just that meaning they work or they don't. If they don't its for a reason. I would just go over all the grounds and connections to double check nothing is loose. If you don't find anything, just wait for it to come along again. There is a good chance it will.

Hmm always causes concern cause even if it was just a hiccup, what caused it and why.... did the engine seem to stumble or just get turbo shutter? is the car an Auto or manual? just asking cause with a little too much clutch causing the car to stumble may cause the engine to shutter, just a thought and could be way off base.... was the car idling correctly before you tried to romp on the throttle? Curious stumble for sure..... hope it never returns and you keep the pedal mashed!!

The engine ran completely fine except when you could hear the turbo spinning. My afr also would start going lean pretty quick when the stutter would happen.

Misfire will show as a lean O2 reading. So if the stuttering you are referring to is misfire, that would make sense. Question is which came first, the lean condition causing the misfire or the misfire causing the lean? Good luck!

What meth kit? Do you have a way of purging the meth?

If you have no way to purge you may have had air in the lines. It then would take a little longer for the meth to come out initially and clear up after you used it once.

It's an Alky Control kit. You can purge it but the activation light wasn't even coming on. And it also doesn't make sense that it was stuttering at low boost before the kit even comes on.
