I am looking to see if the holley high ram will fit under a 6in cowl hood or maybe a 4 in cowl hood in my 68 camaro with the engine setting about 3/4 from the frame to oil pan.i want to make sure it fits before I do anything.Intake facing forward like normal. Any info and pics would be great.thanks in advance.
Mine fit's with a 4" cowl. My hood is a bolt on, but open in the middle unlike the steel hoods available from most vendors. I have a Moroso steel conversion pan that sits about 1/4" from the crossmember though. I have about 1/2" clearance with the hood closed. I don't have any good pics looking straight across the fenders to show how high it sits and the engine is out of the car right now for other work being done.
I don't remember the brand name of the hood. I bought it 21 years ago when I built the car. It was listed as a 3 1/2" hood back then though. I put a photo with the hood open when it was still a BBC so you can see how it is open underneath.
could just go with the Holley Midrise, slight loss in power, same design concept. Just my 2 cents. I would be curious if a notched (bottom bracing cut out) 2" cowl would fit it.

You serious? They are fucken garbage. NOTHING like the highrise manifolds except the same top. They make less power than a factory intake

I have no bracing cus it's a "lightweight" fiberglass hood and it barely hits I need about 1/2" to 3/4" more room. BTW I did read the midram was pretty bad.
I would go with the Edelbrock over the mid-ram any day. I hate the dual 4 hole lower design that looks like a standard dual 4 barrel intake with an adapter you have to bolt on and then the top plenum. Not sure why Holley couldn't have just made a shorter version of the hi-ram lower intake other than cost savings to use a lower that was already available.
Shows the mid rise (on this particular setup) puts out 31 extra horsepower over the stock LS1. I meant the midsize has the same look as the high rise. Not the same performance. I wish the high rise was 2 inches shorter so it would fit under the majority of the hoods it doesn't
I have a Art Morrison subframe with half height subframe bushings and need a 4" cowl. Fiberglass is nice since there is no bracing but you could cut the bracing on the 4" steel to make it work.

Apples to Oranges comparison. A 6.0 with a big cam and high rev-limiter is going to move a lot more CFM than a mild-cam turbo 4.8/5.3 that doesn't move nearly as much CFM and has a lower rev limiter. You're likely to lose power from idle to the limiter with a Mid-rise.
