I haven't opened them up, but they weren't advertised as BB at all.

Got to drive the mustang last night and today with the new turbos. Around 45* ambient so traction isn’t the best. So far it’s a totally new car. Pretty much just spins when I hit the gas in any gear but 3rd. Even rolling into it at 50 in 2nd it insta spins the drag radials.

I try not to hammer on it in 3rd with 2.73’s and 27” tires at low RPM. Has to be hard on things… I did do a quick 3rd gear rolling test. Positive boost by 2800 and full 15lbs at 3600ish (I’m guessing the stall point) Pretty crazy… I’ll have to work on dumbing the tune down with timing across the mid-range. Seems really strong, but it’s a totally different power band. Hard to tell without a track. Had to crank the DC to about half what it was with the 72’s to get similar boost levels. Also the exhaust note is noticeably louder. Sounds like an NA open header car. Not much whistle/whine form the turbine or the compressors, even in boost the turbos are relatively quiet.

Seems like you’re on the right track now. Give us a list on the spec differences between the old turbos and the new.

REV9 Turbonetics clones 72/68. Listed as .83AR T3 4" V-band (Which I think its total BS, easily 1.0AR or larger)

POWERMAX TURBOS GT35 clones with 10blade billet 64mm wheel. 64/62’s. .63AR T3 3" Vband

I know Del (Wicked69) runs .68 a/r on his 62s on the 6.0. He says boost is literally instant. Sucks you’ll be waiting for spring now to see some results

Think he has the .68 T4’s on 61/65 from VSracing. They are quite a bit larger exh housing wise. That’s what I was going with too, (.84 T3 versions Viren sells) but the seller of these GT35’s accepted my low ball $250 offer. They are listed at $291!

I was drawn in by the shiny wheels I’ll never see. Guessing the 61/65’s would have been better!

What do the IATs look like so far? Probably not enough data yet to tell. You think you could run 20-22psi with meth?

I don't have the pump/inj to hit 20. I'm sure the engine would be fine. Still on a single AEM380 with "boosta pump" and 80's. Trying not to break this one though! The RX7 is for breaking, lol.

Been driving to work and back past couple days. Seems good so far.

I’m thinking the boost cutouts being closed may have been creating enough pressure to force exhaust past the seal ring on the turbo and into the cartridge. Seems odd I wouldn’t see evidence of oil leaking into either of the housings though. I need to follow through and run a complete stock 4cyl exhaust system on this sucker. I just HATE adding the weight. Was hoping what I had would work.

Also I overfilled the oil pan by quite a bit. Guess they are 6qt pans including filter. I put 7.5 qts in plus the filter. Also when I pulled the drain lines to install the new turbos about a ½ QT came out. So with the engine running I assume the level drops a ton. Guessing they are draining fine now.

I am going to try a 2.5" aluminum exhaust out the back, with a loud valve off the downpipe.

That would be slick… I can’t justify the cost/effort on this turd though. I was asking around and a single 2.25” crush bent from the cheapest local muffler shop in town was still over 200 w/ muffler. Even that has me cussing at price/weight.

Was looking online and walker makes a factory replacement form the cat back for the 2.3 fox body for $134 shipped w/ muffler. Would need a “Y” to the back to it to get it going. This was a 4 cyl car originally so the hangers should line up and make for a quick/easy install. Little torn though, I don’t like the muffler placement. I’d like to get that all the way back if possible and maybe go lighter/smaller on the muffler. Curious how loud crush bent single 2.25” pipe would be w/o a muffler as well.

What do you think about keeping the vac-closed Loudvalve and shimming it so it can never completely close? It seemed pretty effective.

That is a decent option. I hear ya on the weight penalty, but the quietness would be pretty nice.

The arm length is adjustable so you can do that. I had a calibrated “leak” of vac going to the actuator so it couldn’t close all the way. Could even adjust it with a bleed valve. This does work, but it doesn’t make it quiet enough to sneak the car in and out of my garage without waking the baby at night. Even a small opening is 50%+ louder than the way it is now.

I know the weather has not been stellar, but does the engine still hit a wall at 6000-6300 rpm? If not, what made the difference?

It's the same, it will physically pull to 7k but it doesn't make any power there. Picked up short shifting 2nd to 3rd at 6k. Which is a retarded huge jump with 2.73's. Should be able to stay in 2nd and pull clean to 7k+. When I get a chance, I'll pull a spring and put it on my scale. Not sure what the deal is yet.

Had a few hours this weekend to throw together the quiet exhaust setup. Used a walker 2" 4 cyl kit. It goes up and over the rear axle using the factory hangers which is nice. Though it did exit on the driver side... I was thinking it would exit on the passenger. Used some old piping I had laying around. 2" snaked through the AJE K-member then 2.25” back to the Walker exhaust kit. Wrapped ecerythign up front back to the faire wall when I was done.

I'll get some sound clips up, but it's factory decibel quiet.

On a side note my brakes failed out of nowhere. Has a new master and booster. Tested booster and it holds vac seems fine. Slow drops vac as pedal is pressed and holds vac for 5+ mins without leaking.

Bled it like 5 times now. No air in the lines nice firm pedal. As soon as I turn the car on I lose all pedal firmness. Pedal goes almost to the floor and does return fine, just no pressure. Barely enough pressure to stop rear wheels from spinning. New calipers and drums all set properly.

I've heard you can trip a shuttle valve or something in these? I dunno... it's kick'n my ***.

Are you running 2 normally closed pneumatic cutouts at the end of the downpipe?
