Default Turbo smoking issues

hey guys, I'm using the Huron Speed T4 V2 non a/c kit and we are having some issues with the turbo blowing out smoke through the DP. I'm using a PT88 with HS's recommended feed and drain line locations. the car is a little lower in the front so the return line was just level, maybe even slightly uphill, which made sense as to why it was smoking. So we added a scavenge pump and it still didn't fix the problem. the pump is a tilton with a -10 line. do you guys have any suggestions or any idea of what else the problem could be?

i contacted Huron speed and i'm just waiting for their response, but i thought asking the turbo community might be of some help as well. thanks for any help.

Is the turbo new? Did you use a restrictor?

yes the turbo is new, but it did sit in its box for about a year before i had it installed.

not sure if we used a restrictor, ill ask my mechanic, i think we just used the recommended lines and fittings from huron speeds install guide.

oil pressure is around 70 at cold idle and 50 hot if that bit of info helps.

Sitting in the box won't have an affect on it. I had to use a restrictor, which was just a nitrous pill in the oil line. I don't remember the size though.

Anytime. Hopefully that is all it is. Mine smoked until the restrictor was put in and now it doesn't smoke at all.

So is the turbo installed right ?? ie oil in the top and out the bottom ?

And is that Tilton capable of moving enough oil ?

making sure the turbo itself is clocked in the right position as stevie asked is a must. I also have the VT t4 kit, but I got lucky as the pt7675 I used just happen to alresdy have the drain line on bottom and oil feed line on top (not sure if huron speed anticipated this) either way it's something easy to check and fix if not. I had my turbo sitting around for a while and it did no harm to mine for sure..I didn't need a restrictor but seems that certain turbos need them. hope you figure it out, let us know what you find

Put a scavenger pump in. If you have a new fresh motor the engine can be on tight side and cause excessive crank pressure. Thus causing issue with it to drain. If the drain tube doesn't come straight out and down... that's a issue too.

It has a scavenge pump on it. tilton with a -10 line.

Yes, the motor is new. has less then 1k on it.

As far as i know the feed and drain is straight up and down. The guys at the shop have done turbos before I'm sure they know that straight up and down is best for the feed and drain.

Someone else on here had a similar problem and there was just left over oil that needed to burn of from before the scavenge pump was installed causing it to smoke, it stopped after idling for a little while, so the shop was going to drive it a bit yesterday to see if that was the case. I'm waiting to hear back.

What are you using for crank case ventilation? I had the same issue with my twins, turned out I wasn't getting enough ventilation. I built a vacuum based closed pcv system with a large functional catch can and some check valves. Problem immediately cleared up. Prior to that I was just venting to atmosphere.

Huron speed suggested the same thing. We are trying that now.

We had a car, pretty much same setup, do the exact same thing. We did a nice catch can system, and made it a -12 drain as per Precision's suggestion. No more issues
