04 LQ4 Mighty Mouse PCV Catch Can Install
A little background, I put an ON3 7665 in front of my Gen III LQ4 hoping to brake the 500 hp mark at the wheels. At first I grabbed a cheap, $30, ebay catch can and plumbed it in. All I noticed was vapor blowing right through it and out the breather, the can never accumulated 1 drop of oil. I don't want any smoke under boost so I splurged and order the Mighty Mouse PCV can. I was very impressed. I recieved the can in under a week, pretty sweet since i live in Montana and away from every manufacturer. Fit and finish is excellent.
Here is a few pics of the install:
At first I had to pull my old pcv system and trash the ebay can.
Pic of the new can. Opted to get 3/8 barbs on both the clean out and dirty in ports
I am using an early 04 Lq4 which has one port on each valve cover. It is also important to note that I do not have an LS6 valley cover.
I installed a short pod breather filter on the back of the driverside valve cover for my fresh air into the system. You can do it this way or run a line from the intake side of your air filter.
I pulled the passenger side valve cover off and used a long screwdriver to rotate the outlet 180 degrees so it points straight back instead of forward. This way I don't have to make a 180 with my hose to head back to the can that I mounted on the firewall.
Next step was to find a place to mount the can. MightyMouse lets you select which type you want to use for a mount, I elected the universal mount because I didn't think i would have room on the head. I mounted mine to the firewall behind the passenger side head.
Next step is to run a hose from the port that we rotated on the passenger side valve cover to the black, or dirty side of the catch can. Then run a line from the silver clean side to an available port on the intake manifold after the throttle blade.
Fits good, looks good.
The install took less than 30 minutes. I am excite to see how it does, my goal was to not have any smoke under boost and seeing that my motor has 132k miles on the clock, it is a sure bet there will be some blow-by when we pressurize up the system.
A little more tuning tomorrow and she will be ready for the dyno on Tuesday to see what kind of numbers it will make on low, low boost. <br/>
