Default If you have a spectre air filter on your car read this!!!!

So a good friend of mine purchased a spectre air filter to use on his turbo'd ls swapped c10. Well within an hour of having his turbo set up completed, the metal chromed center cap in the filter came loose and destroyed his brand new turbo. He's contacted them and they refuse to help him and only offer the replace the filter that caused the problem.

At this point half of these guys would be just as good off running an open turbo. But honestly, you can find a decent sized paper filter that will work and at the very least keep large contaminates out.

The situation sucks, for sure. However...

As much as it does suck... It's a complete waste of time and energy to try to get them to buy another turbo. No case there. Just gotta swallow it and move on.

Thanks for the heads up though.

Being the betting man I am, I would say that the inside of said filters look like this.

There have been threads here before about them. It has to be the most stupid filter design ever.

I suspect the filters were not meant to go beyond NA air movement, and when you go over the CFM rating (if they even have them) it becomes a rest., and something's gotta give

Filters should never be designed where there are pieces that can fall off and go into an engine !! simple as that.

For everyone wondering, yes the filter posted above is identical to the one my buddy had bought, his was just shorter. Worst part about the whole situation is that he originally bought the filter just to throw on the truck to get it running N/A and he threw it back on to get home from the exhaust shop after having his turbo plumbed and it let go on the way home.
To make things worse I've found evidence online proving that this time last year k&n and spectre was actually replacing people parts damaged in the same manner. Yet they refuse to do anything but replace the filter for buddy.

Well FWIW thanks for the heads up. I had ordered some $9 china filters for my setup and they both have that goofy button inside of them. I probably wouldn't have thought to look.

I looked at mine after I saw this thread also. Cant remember the brand of mine. Bought it on Amazon for about 60 bucks 9"x14" monster. It has a big silicone pointed nub that's molded into the filter in the center. I don't see that being an issue. Do yall ?

I've seen those nubs come out too but it wasn't on a turbo vehicle and it's because the filter got so bad it was starting to collapse on itself and it tore the nub out.

That's insane. Why in the heck would anyone design a filter with basically what amounts to a potential missile hazard built into the inside of it?!
