Default Twin turbo 427lsx ideas?

98 Camaro z28 m6 car. Planning on building a 427 twin turbo combo over the winter and was looking for some ideas as to what will put me up around 1400-1500 rwhp. I'm bringing this car to tx2k in the spring and want to compete with the big boys . I was gonna buy the tsp short block with dragon slayer crank, lunatic I beams, mahle -4cc flat top Pistons. Not sure what I'll top it off with but probably the biggest set of afr or tfs heads I can get my hands on . This car is a street car that I'd like to cruise with 900 at the tires and be able to put on kill mode and hit 1400-1500 at the tires . I'm guessing something along the lines of twin s400s, with a a2w inter cooler and meth kit spraying alcohol can keep it in order. I also have a nitrous outlet plate kit that could also aid in the cooling with an inter cooler spray bar . Just looking for ideas on guys that have been here and done that. This is double the horsepower of any car I've every owned at 1400 rwhp . The short block alone is 9500.00 . A few question though .
1- what transmission and clutch will withstand this , automatic isn't an option either , as I enjoy having a 6 speed. Can I get away without a full tub job and still have this car hook? My 674 rwhp new edge Dead hooked with adjustable uppers, weld in sfcs, and 315-35-17 nitto nt05r's out back. Also had strange double adjustable shocks and was setup perfect by my buddy . This was with a novi 2000 so the power came in very fast but with a 4.6 the torque is a lot less and this is obviously a whole new ball game with a 427 and Twins. I'm not completely concerned with 1/4 mile times just being fast for the roll race even . Budget isn't a word associated with this build . Could I run a big single and accomplish my goals as well? Whatever everybody thinks and "has experienced first hand " is appreciated . Thanks guys . Looking forward to being a member for a long time coming

Put a 150 shot of nitrous on the stock 1998 Camaro. after you get over how fast that is, then start talking about a turbo 427. Your mention of a NOVI2000 and 4.6 let me know your expectations are LOW.

How are my expectations low? I had a 10 second lt1 with the same exact nitrous kit I have for the ls1, had le3 heads xfi280 cam, and ran 10.8 @127 through a stock a4, 10 bolt with Richmond 4.10s and a Hughes 3400 stall with a 150 shot. The mustang pulled way harder but never saw quarter mile use and was strictly a wild street car. Now that we're past your idea of me having low expectations, I'm asking for insight on a 900-1000 rwhp pump gas/ 1400 hp c16 twin turbo lsx not a 11 second nitrous ls1. The only interest I have in the nitrous setup is strictly for cooling properties . When I had my lt1 I got sick of filling a bottle 3x a week cuz I liked playing on the highway too much .

Just thought I'd add that a novi 2000 is capable of 1000 hp . A ls1 with a 150 shot is not gonna compare to 670 rwhp regardless of make , model or engine for that matter .

My late night **** talking was directed at the 4.6, and was meant to be humorous rather than serious. That being said, if you aren't too concerned with 1/4 times, an AA intercooler would be lighter weight and simpler than AW for street running. As for the transmission, finding any reliability at that power level will be tough with a 6 speed. I wouldn't use the nitrous spraybar, as the meth you mentioned will make that an unneeded extra complication. In the same spirit of keeping things simple, a big single could do what you want, but I question the packaging difficulties with the size turbo and downpipe that would require. It wouldn't be a biggie on a race only ride, but the street needs air filters and full exhaust.

Understood. I found a great deal on eBay for a Huron v1 single setup which retains ac. It's exactly what I'm looking for as it lacks the turbo, inter cooler bov waste gate etc . Price opened at 499.99 and bin was 899.99 . I'm just looking for a monster street car that may see some strip use too specifically built to compete at tx2k. I was looking into a tick stage 4 or 5 "can't remember which one" as I'm school shopping for my daughter out of town right now. But it was good for around 1000 ft lbs which I'm gonna exceed with that many cubes and that much boost.

http://m.ebay.com/itm/V1-AC-Retaining-Single-T4-F-body-Turbo-Kit-98-02-Camaro-Trans-Am-LS1-Lsx-/112106799800?hash=item1a1a1602b8%3Ag%3ANtEAAOSwU-pXtg4Z&_trkparms=pageci%253A97c38221-6bf9-11e6-9a96-74dbd180d9e7%257Cparentrq%253Ac9b733301560a2a3986f 703efffad5b9%257Ciid%253A1

thats the kit I stumbled across . Would allow me too piece together my own setup .
6 speed is a must have for me , and if the built transmission is warrantied lol then I don't mind breaking them. I just need too narrow my choices down and focus on a more direct route rather than sifting through countless combinations . I'm sure there are 1000 ways to make the power I want to make . Aside from machining and possibly tuning I have no labor fees whatsoever as I own my own repair shop , which greatly increases my budget for parts !

I did however take your route and started swapping the nitrous kit from my new edge, into the ls1. Just bought the 78mm plate and picked up 10 gallons of ms-109 as well as a couple cans of vp Octanium ! It'll be interesting to see how fast it'll run with my current bolt ons , suspension and hopefully somehow swapping my cobra r rims and radials onto the mustang " a ls sin at its worst" haha

huron speed twin kit with a pair of 76mm should get you there. I made 1200 on a pair of precision 6766s at 23 psi on e85 so far. Im sure I could easily make over 1300 if I turn this combo all the way up. oh, im running a 387 lsx fwiw

I've seriously pondered what the stock ls1 block could handle , just a 30 over rebuild with billet rods, dragons layer crank and mahle pistons. Big set of heads and a lot of boost. I'd imagine it could make 1000 plus but who knows how quickly the block would give up. If I could make the power I'm wanting from a 355 with amazing flowing heads, and a turbo setup then I'd definitely do it, only issue I see is having to rev the **** out of it too get it there, and the block staying together . What is your opinions on tsp? Their prices are hard to beat and I've done quite a bit of searches and found very little negative feedback.

I don't believe anyone has had an actual LS block failure. Early aluminum motors dropped some sleeves, and many have perished due to broken rods or pistons, but the block was never the original point of failure. Iron block 4.8 motors have been reliably pushed to 1000rwhp with nothing more than larger ring gaps and proper fueling. Oddly enough, your worry about rpm seems to be a mute point, as the electronics seem to give out before 8000rpm on factory computers (hard coded limit), and aftermarket ECUs (unknown issues).

If you want 1400+ and good spool...go for the 427 or similar.

If you do not need the larger engine, then yes power can still be made with a smaller motor, albeit at higher boost levels and/or perhaps also a higher rpm limit.

You need to decide what will work best for you, in the speeds, gearing etc you will be working with, and of course how much grip you have available.

A well built T56 Magnum will cover your needs, or one of the RSG Tranzilla Magnums. Again various gearing options with these.

Clutches...harder to say. There are some Monster, RPS Carbon, Tilton and possibly other brands that offer triple, quad clutches that all claim will hold that sort of power
But I'm sure even that also depends on usage, vehicle etc.

For the build though, a good aftermarket ecu would make a lot of sense. And ignore the above comment, there are no issues running 8000rpm....or indeed 16,000 rpm with the right system.

If an ecu/system cannot run a lowly 8k, it is *****.

I'd be looking at a TR6060 variant over a T56 personally. With lots of cryo parts inside it.

Magnum has the good internals, T56 just means it'd be a direct bolt in fitment as for some baffling reason Tremec never and wont make a Magnum in the most commonly used F-Body configuration.

Although I think RSG use Viper Magnum internals that have stronger gears again.

For a six speed, a big single would probably be too lazy at the power levels you want. I'd go with twin 7675's and be done.

What are your guys thoughts on the newer self tuning fi setups? They say the higher end stuff learns extremely quick and can accomplish what a dyno tune does in just a few miles of driving. Obviously magazine articles stretch the truth but just curious if anyone has experience with these , and what brand and powe levels ?

Simple, any ecu in the wrong hands can result in a fucked engine.

And there is a hell of a lot more to what an ecu can do than just fuel tuning...and none of those things will be automatically done with no user input or supervision.

427 and some 66/67 precisions. Buddies 9:5.1 car made 1117 on 10lbs the other day. You can get close to 1400. Also 1400 in an Fbody with out amble street time won't get you far at TX2K. It takes a lot of work to get any RWD car with those numbers working well.

hey Dennis! please shoot me an email to Casey@huronspeed.com and I can get you covered on everything for the whole setup! as my friend jon mentioned above, he is making 1200+ with a smaller engine, and relatively small turbos! I sold him his entire setup. engine, kit, turbos, fuel, you name it!

I can definitely do the same for you and get you where you need to be, I'm confident it wont be a problem at all. I look forward to hearing from you!
