Default How important is LSA on a turbo cam?

A friend of mine had a custom grind cam made for his turbo setup.

He wanted something with some lope at idle but good power.

The person who made the cam is well known (non-sponsor) and has done lots of custom grinds for forced induction (blower and turbo) setups but usually with "secret specs".

The cam guy warned him ahead of time. "The numbers will look totally off but trust me, they work very well."

So I had a peak at his numbers and this is what his specs are:

225/244 .612/.615 107.5 LSA.

He hasn't installed the motor in the car yet but even the engine builder looked at it and thought he would be better off going with an off-the-shelf boost cam.

Opinions on specs?

whats the engine thats going it.... and turbo thats going on it??

Work very well is a matter of opinion...

That cam has 19.5 degrees of overlap...

Just for reference.... I normally dont go over 15 on 400+ inch Twin turbo cars....

That cam would seem to need a very low backpressure turbo setup. I view this as a very race-only oriented setup. Does your friend plan to use nitrous to spool a large turbo?

The last time I used a cam with specs close to that, it was on a twin S476 496 big block. Had closed to .700 lift, but was a 228/242 on a 108 LSA.

I truly enjoy how casually a twin turbo 496 big block is brought up on this forum. JoeNova, I bet that thing was a f*cking beast!

OP, as for that particular cam you mentioned, I would imagine it for a big engine with a big turbo, or a set of big turbos, rectangle or square port heads, and is probably in a dedicated race car that has no concerns for driveability.

It's a 6.0L LQ9 with twin Borg Warner FMW 62 76/68 .88ar t4 turbos. Heads are unported LS3s.

Oh boy. Car will definitely be driven on the street lol.

My old 383 LT1 had a 236/242 cam with 109 LSA. I loved it but it was pretty lumpy.
