I find that hard to believe. I did see SLP post that they say it's 100 lbs.

although i have a nitrous motor, i went with an iron block for the same reasons. cubes, strenght, cost, and the fact that i had on laying around. on the strenght issue, i have seen plenty of LS1s in machine shops because of cracked sleeves. i have also seen several that would break pistons and due to the extra pressure, crack the sleeve at the same time. if those were iron motors, they could but be bored if the walls got hurt. although i would rather have a darton sleeved aluminum motor if i had the money. oh yea, and i was able to squeeze 380 cubes out of mine with the stock crank offset ground down to a 2.00 SBC rod journal

Well , I would recomend APE . They were very helpfull and they doesn't roush you when talking on the phone . They take their time with you . They are building me a 408 motor that have :
callies 4 inch crank
callies ls1 specific rods
diamond piston ( 9.1 compresion )
ported oilpump
242/248 dur , .6xx/.6xx lift , 114 lobe sep ( not sure about this )
chromoly pushrods
APE 6.0L race heads ( 2.08/1.60 valves )
WAR intake manifold with 90 degree elbow
bla bla bla....

All this will be in an little truck (single cab S10 Xtreme)
It is gonna have a procharger F1 blower with FMIC and procharger race bypassvalve and an dry shot nitrous on top of it .
The motor should be ready this week and shipped next week .
Go APE , there good people

i thought the ls1 had a "out of the hole" deck height of .006 ?
i gues on the calc you could put .0001 and subtract .006 from the gasket thickness.

your talking about the new ls1 engine girdle, yeah you do not need to run an Iron block any more, I am the engineer who devoloped it, I am the only person you can get it from , as I am going to recieve the patent for it, I am selling them on ebay check it out (under seach type in ls1 engine girdle), it boxes in all the mains, decreases windage, less friction in the piston area, and increases tortional rigidity, just an awesome piece.
