intercooler core source and recommendations
Bell, garrett, spearco...there are quite a few marques out there...more than I expected really.
Looks like good things are said about treadstone cores, and the price is certainly attractive.
I have space for about 35" long by 16" tall (with tanks) The current 3" thick VS intercooler is tight, thickness wise but I could make room if a 3.5" core would make a big gain.
My current combo is an Lq4, 222/228 @ .050" .566/.571 on a 115+2, VS 78/75 through a 4l80e with a 3600 stall. I'd like to see 750 at the wheel on pump + meth spray if possible. Not a lot of e85 here, but I have the capability to tune for it if need be.
I'm hoping for some opinions on bang for the buck cores. I'm not shooting for the moon, I just want a better fitting cooler and since I'm going through the hassle I'd like it to be a little more efficient than the China core it's replacing.
I can't fit a 4" + thick core without major rework.
Personally, I'm running VS racing IC's. (Car hasn't been started yet but many, many builds have used these north of 900 whp)
trust me i dont afraid of china race parts. dudes build the great wall---they're a-ok in my book.
i'm just looking for a middle of the road core thats available in different sizes and configs...cross flow, vertical flow etc...and not too hard on the pocket book.
i cant really justify a garrett core thats costs as much or more as my motor, cam, turbo and piping.
looking like treadstone is gonna be my jam
