Default Griffin stand up radiator Write-Up/How-To with part #'s

Alright so I did a lot of research on this before starting. Figured I will help the next guy and make a write up on how to do a stand up radiator with all the info needed.

Parts needed:

Griffin Radiator- Part # GRI-1-55241-XS $270 shipped from Summit Racing
https://www.summitracing.com/parts/gri-1-55241-xs

Upper Radiator Hose- Your stock upper radiator hose will work perfect. If you want to get a new one part # Goodyear 62426

Lower Radiator Hose- NBH FM68 16.5" x 1-3/4 Flex Hose. $20 at Napa
https://www.napaonline.com/napa/en/p/NBGFM68/NBGFM68

Lower Rad Hose to WP Adap- NBH 901 1 3/4 - 1 1/2 adapter. $8 at Napa
https://www.napaonline.com/napa/en/p/NBG901/NBG901

Fans- 2 Derale fans. Part # 16925. $130 each from Summit racing
https://www.summitracing.com/parts/der-16925

Barb fitting for steam port off heads- 1/2" Aluminium Male Weld On Barb Fitting Bung. Just google or ebay that exactly. Got it from ebay for $8 shipped

Bottom Rubber mounts for radiator to sit on- Bought 2" square rubber mounts and 1 3/4" circle rubber mounts from menards for $3.

EDIT: I used Weld on threaded Aluminum bungs 1/2-13 pitch that I found on ebay.

Straps for radiator- Bought 3ft of square aluminum from menards for $5

Tools needed:

Die Grinder/buffer
Screw driver
Tape measure
Straight edge
Drain pan
Paint pen

1. First off Disconnect the battery. I went ahead and removed the battery because it was kind of in the way. Remove radiator shroud. Drain antifreeze and remove all the hoses. Remove your fans and radiator.

2. Now your ready to do your measurements, mark where you want to cut, and start cutting. The radiator is 27.5" x 2.5" so I cut a 28" x 2.5" slot for the radiator. Make sure to make straight lines with a paint pen before you cut so it's all straight and looks good.

There are "humps" on either side of the radiator I pointed it out in the pic below.

Measure 2.5" in from each hump and make a line with straight edge. 2.5" in from each hump will make your total cut 28".

Then measure 2.5" for the width of the rad. Draw all your lines on using a straight edge and a paint pen and start cutting just like the first picture above shows.

Here it is with the radiator in. Fits perfect. Couldn't be happier with the outcome. I can actually see my turbo when I pop the hood which is awesome!

Bought these rubber floor protectors from menards and screwed them on where I wanted radiator to sit

Attached the fans with supplied hardware and wire them up.

Got the bung fittings welded on top of the radiator. Cut the straps to fit and mounted the radiator

Are you going to reinforce it, or does it need it?

I assume you mean the radiator support? I have no plans to right now. It seems pretty sturdy.

If I do exactly what you did, same Griffin radiator.....will the factory A/C condensor fit to the front of it?

I have the Huron Speed single kit......gonna have to fit the S484 with Race Cover.

Any details on how you wired up your fans?

I wired one off a switch I have under the steering wheel. The other I wired with the supplied relay with the fan. I used the 12v wiring for the stock fan to trigger the relay for the new fan. The stock fan wiring won't support the new fan.

Thanks for the write up. I'd been meaning to look this up this very topic, since putting on twins late this year. Have you driven it around in traffic? How are your temps? I moved my stock fans in front of the stock radiator and wired them as pushers. They cool great but howl quite a bit since the fans are running in the opposite direction(thick side of the blade hits the air first).

I'm sure the passenger in/out would work fine, but I figured it would just be easier not to have to find another custom hose. Reusing the stock hose on the top was the easiest way and works good. Easy and works are what I usually go for!

The car runs really cool now. This radiator is WAAAY thicker then the stock one. On WOT runs I don't even get over 200 degrees. Driving around town it usually runs around 184 degrees.

Glad I helped! Thats why I like doing write-ups. It's a PITA looking for all the correct hoses and parts. Much easier to just order it all and get it done.

Always loved your intercooled lt1 btw .
