What shifter do you have? You can wire the trans brake into the reverse light switch and get reverse, but I would use a toggle or something to shut it off at the track so if you go into neutral on the big end you don't accidently get reverse
My vote is a 35 spline 9 inch!

It's not a clean neutral. And being a reverse valvebody, it would be near impossible to hit neutral or reverse on the big end. And being that there's no engine braking with these types of transmissions, I'm not sure why people like to go to neutral at the traps....because when you get off the gas the engine goes to idle by itself.

Props on trying it out. How much do you have warped up into the full conversion? Interested to see what you think after a year or so with it.
As always, thanks for sharing!

This sounds accurate. My 150 traps 6 speed car felt 100% faster than my buddies 150 traps Auto, but his went mid 8's. Difference is you could take a nap in the passenger seat running that 8 LOL

Took info from multiple sources, asked some questions in the transmission section on here....watched a few YouTube vids....and gleaned some info from other boards. Didn't use any books though, just took it apart and figured it out later.

HP Books "How to build and Modify TH400" is good but dated.
Don't laugh, but I use an old set of instructions form a B&M Trans kit I saved from the first one I did one many years ago as an assembly guide.
It's quite good.
If you keep the assemblies together and work on just one at a time, it helps.
I have Jake's shift kit. It is not bashful, 2-3 is very solid.
Jake also helped me with the intermediate 4 plate clutch and some other 4L80 parts.
I also did the pump mod. .110"orfice. Although someone had already put a reducer in there. I gather it was common for big trucks that had thrust bearing issues. Mine came from a 1972 C10. Converter pressure is 40-60 psi. It did not affect the way the converter works.
So I'm just waiting to break the input shaft or blow up the 2nd gear sprag at this point. Then these deals get expensive.....

I'm glad you like it. I was extremely happy making the switch when my car was just cam only.. Lol
It's definitely the 2.73s giving you the mushy feeling with the converter, but if it cruises nicely on the highway.. It's probably a worthwhile compromise to make. I look forward to track times!
