Depends on the power you want to make. This question has been asked a lot and so there are a lot of opinions already posted throughout the forum, but generally speaking, the more power you make, the more clearance you want. Coevite recommends .001" of clearance per 1" of shaft diameter as a starting point.

As far as thrust, auto cars usually require more clearance than manuals trans equipped cars. I like to see .004-.006" for engines with a manual trans, .006-.009" for auto trans.

Thanks for the youtube link and info guys.

One thing that I felt like I had read, but can't really seem to find anyone talking about it anymore is do you need to measure the roundness of the bases where the bearings actually sit on? I think it was something related to the fact that the factory matches the bearings to the block after it has been machined?

You mean engine assembly plants? They dont match anything.
