Default Which Turbonetics would be best?

I have called around and talked to a few people but I am still trying to decide which turbo to run. The T series 7875 or a hurricane 7868. Obviously the price is huge between the 2 so I don't want to use the T series if it is overkill, My goal is 650rwp, I don't even want to try push it harder than that because it is a stock bottom gen3 5.3. It will mostly be a street car so quick spool up and driveability is really important. I was told the 7868 would fall off trying to achieve that kind of power and would be a restriction at high rpm with backpressure issues. Any thoughts? Cam is a trickflow 216/220 and its in a 3300lb car with a glide and 3.08 rear. Thanks

That's tough. For the price the TC78 is really good, but just like you said it starts to fall off above 5400rpm and will start to make less and less power per lb of boost the higher you go. I still think you could meet your goal with it though.

I got a good deal on my 7875 and I really like it. Both of them make a great noise, but my 7875 is a little bit louder (which I love) and it def holds better power up top and higher rpm.

Well thank you, since I should be very clos to my goal and it is a street car I will probably use the hurricane then.

I would go with the China version of the 7875 if budget is an issue. There were threads around here right after the 7875 came out with talks the turbonetics one was made in China with a name brand slapped on it.

The problem with that line of thinking is that almost everything is made in China. The difference in the american brands that use China imports is that they quality inspect the items before you get them. The inexpensive stuff you get straight from the Chinese manufacturers could be great, or could be crap. You don't know until you get the delivery.

I thought hard about going the china route but I just decided I don't mind spending a few more bucks for a high quality unit, I do plan on keeping the car and putting some miles on it so I think the piece of mind is worth it for me. The vs racing 7875 billet really is tempting though!

I would buy a Garrett or Precision over a turbonetics, but that's just me.

You'll be restricting yourself with the tc78 at that power. Go with the bigger guy.

I ran the TC7868 on my SBE LS1 w/ CNC ported 317's and turbo cam.
The power came on like a light switch and was very hard to modulate.
It also choked up at about 5,500 rpm but for a driver it was a great turbo, tip in throttle response was great and with an auto it would've been better.
I'm now running the T7875 and its a rock star compared to the TC7868.
The T7875 moves WAY more air, the power comes on much smoother and it will pull cleanly past 6,000 rpm
I'm anticipating 650ish whp at 10-11lbs. since I was at 550ish w/ the TC7868 at 6 lbs.
Both are great turbos but like everyone on here will tell you, boost is like heroin and you'll want room to grow, go with the T7875, there are used ones on here all the time.
I'm on my second used Turbonetics turbo without any issues (knock on wood).

Good points, thanks. I really want the t series now.
