Default On3/vs racing 99 ss build

Well guys, this is the start of my single turbo build. The car is a 99 ss m6 with 78k miles. It had a cam only setup for a little while. This will most likely be a slower process just due to money but, hopefully will be done by the end of September.

i picked up an on3 kit for $500 from a guy that bought it but never used it. It didn't have a turbo, intercooler injectors or fans. I got the turbo and intercooler from Viren.
Pulled the ac and radiator out making room
While I was working on getting the headers out I found this...
Passenger manifold fittedI hope to get the driver side manifold fitted today so I can mock up the crossover and finish getting the vbands welded.
As for the broken trans, im thinking of either fixing it or doing a 4l80 swap.

After last nights defeat with the lifter situation
More carnage pics of the trans
So the crossover was way off from lining up to the manifolds. Took it back to my guy for him to fit it on his mock up block.
In the meant time I figured I would pull the trans out and swap in the ls6 cam I picked up. I upgraded my valve springs, pushrods and rockers along with the oil pump and timing set when I did my ms3. With all that in mind it should have gone smoothly. I used the dow rod method to hold the lifters up. It worked on 15 of them, sadly the other one fell into the pan.
That brings us to this morning. Pulled the motor out, pulled the heads off and finally got it all back together this afternoon. Dropped the motor in the car pretty easily.
here are some random pics I took because I was too busy to take any good ones today

not quite sure on that one. My theory is when the driveshaft broke it somehow managed to get that but not the tailshaft? Not real sure to be honest

It looks like someone tried to press the trans in place with the bolts without it being lined up correctly.

hmmm wonder who that could have been. Wouldn't it have broke when it was being tightened? I'll admit, that's how I got it in last time. Done it before without a problem

I could have caused a stress crack and let go when you had the other problem. It could have been the weakest link

Sorry for such a long time before an update. Been hard to find time to work on it.
Last weekend I got my new motor mounts in and wow it made a difference. Think that could have been related to the busted mid plate. Got the new midplate put on but I have to clearance it a little for the slave cylinder.

This weekend I got my intercooler mounted, crossover wrapped and the scavenge pump mounted.

My my next goal is to get my radiator and fans in (dual 16925 derales) and wired along with with pump wired.
Can I use the the factory high/low speed triggers for the fans and just wire the rest per the instructions?

Shiny FMIC, used all 4 mounting holes as it was flopping around with just the top secured
DEI black wrap with high temp silicone spray
New midplate
Have to clearance where the clutch line goes, nothing a grinder can't fix

Sorry for the lack of updates guys. Things have been busy and I was waiting on parts.
I ordered a McLeod RST through a buddy that is a TSP dealer. Found a SFI rated bellhousing for fairly cheap and we finally got around to installing all of that today.
i was also able to get the accessories on and the cold side mocked up. Only missing 2 couplers and it will be on for good.
Fuel system will be done next weekend, dual 255’s one activated off a Hobbs switch. Stock return system. Will also be going E85 with a flex sensor after the car is done.
Pics of all the work done today are below. Bmr tq arm/cross member coming off the 9”
This bell housing is STOUT 30lbs of thick steel plate.
Accessories on with a CBR alt relo bracket
Beginning to look like a car again

Okay so heres an update.
I got my dual pumps in and wired. I am waiting on 2 fittings to come in so i can complete the oil drain for the turbo. Once that is finished i will be able to start the car for the first time. After that i just have to drop the radiator back in and fill all the fluids and we can get tuned.

It has been a while and I have several updates for you guys.
We got the car done, finally. Dyno tuned on 14# it made 530whp on pump 93 (thought it was a little low). I didn’t get much track time before chaos ensued though. Took it out to a local event right after we got it done and broke the driveshaft. Got that fixed and drove it on the street trying to get some miles on the setup. Long story short, I did a 4th gear pull and broke a ring land on #7.

With that being said, the sbe ls1 came out and I picked up a 06 5.3. Has gen 4 internals but still 24x. That motor will be together this weekend and dropped in the car along with the trans. Hopefully I’ll have an update on Sunday but for now, pictures.

Ole #7

5.3 with my fbody pan. Rings gapped to 28 on top, 30 on bottom

I think you should spray some water-meth on it. Once I put in a super simple $100 set up I quit breaking pistons on the wawa pump gas we have here.

This 5.3 will be on E85, so I shouldn’t need the water/meth setup. If I was limited to 93 around here I would have done that but I knew I’d be making the switch to E.

i thought 530 was low too, especially since I’ve seen SBE ls1’s make more on pump with almost an identical setup.

I got the 5.3 assembled and in the car this weekend. I would have gotten the trans in also but I had to order dowel pins. This coming weekend all the hard work should be done. Motor and trans will be in, accessories will be on and I will be ready to order fuel system parts and a griffin rad so I can stand it up.

So I ran into a problem this weekend. We got the trans in Thursday night and got everything driveline related buttoned up. Got the manifolds on, PS pump and WP. I put the starter in so I could turn it over and build oil pressure. I turned the key and can hear the starter spinning, but it’s not making contact with the flywheel. I pulled it off and verified the bendix is extending and it is. Put it back in and no change. It’s a 5.3 (obviously), ls1 flywheel, ls1 starter no spacers anywhere. Do I need a truck starter to make this work? Also, I have a QuickTime SFI bellhousing. Idk if that makes a difference. If y’all have any suggestions on what to look at/check next I’m all ears. Hopefully I’ll have some time tonight to mess with it.

I got the starter issue figured out. Guess the original starter wasn’t extending out. Like I said, I tested it on the bench and it extended but oh well. New starter and the problem is gone.

I got the rest of the car pretty much done. Crossover, turbo, intercooler and piping all in. Put a bigger spring in the gate also (10#). Hopefully we can turn this motor up.

I still need to order new rails and a regulator, along with a griffin rad so i can stand it up. Then I need to drop my other 450 in the tank and fix a power steering leak. After that it’ll be ready to rip

Peep these cool intercooler brackets a buddy made for me
