Default Boosting Dorman Ls2 intake

Anyone done it yet?

Am in the market for a new intake and the new Dorman LS2 (615-901) manifold seems to be getting some love re flow numbers, good price too. Am wondering if anyone has any experience turboing one, the Dorman ls6 and truck intakes seem to have a bad reputation for but wondering if these are better

Thanks

I haven't heard bad things about the ls6 and truck intake but I doubt you should expect to see a quality increase from the same company

Presumably it must be a lot different than a stock LS2 intake then ? as most would regard it as the worst factory intake.

That YB thread is about theh Dorman LS6 intake.

I have a dorman ls2 on mine. It’s only seen 5psi. Am I worried about it? Yep. It’s on my list of crap to change. I think I’d rather go with a cheap *** knock off sheet metal one. I need to kill some tq anyways.

Find a proper LS6 intake...although they seem to be expensive now.

Some of the alloy BBK or Weiand intakes would be a good alternative at sensible money for a cathedral setup. Although some might require some attention to their underbelly plate if boosted. I used a BBK for a while and it came with a thin steel base plate. I threw it away and made a thicker stronger alloy plate then bonded/bolted it up.

knowing what I know now, I would have just kept my stock intake and throttle body. But I got $400 in a billet throttle body now so I’m going to carry on with what I have. Maybe I’ll snag a ls2 intake cheap.

LS2 is regarded as about the worst of all the factory intakes...so dont bother with that.

As always, this test is referenced by many. It isnt the be all end all, but it's still a great piece of information.

i should have mentioned that that I already know that. Some people try to sell them craps for good money and most people that realize will damn near give them away. Being I’m boosted it shouldn’t make that much difference. I figured I could get one cheap and it’ll be just fine. But yea. I know they are crap. Lol

Ultimately they're all "fine" as long as they do not blow apart. It's not an all out performance build, and boost can easily make up for any shortcomings. So is a better or fancy intake essential ? absolutely not.

But if you have the option to get one at a sensible price...it can help performance everywhere including off boost. Which cant be a bad thing.

well as a budget option, costing not much more than a dorman, what’s your thoughts on a sheet metal intake like the Holley sniper longer runner version? In my setup I can stand to lose some bottom end and prefe a harder pulling top end and trap speed.

If it will fit under your hood...then it is an option.

I bought one myself at the start of the year, but was very disappointed with the quality, even with the understanding it was cheap Chinese crap....it really is though.

All graphs online etc would suggest you will lose power pretty much everywhere below around 6k....so it doesnt make a lot of sense either for most people. That said, on mine it doesnt really feel any different vs the BBK I had just prior and I do like the appearance so I'll stick with it until it gives an actual problem or I can afford a proper intake.

I needed something cheap anyway to gauge actual fitment. I'd have preferred a ProFlo, but was cautious as I knew that would have been borderline on height available, and the Holley is a little lower. I did still have to cut/adapt the front TB flange angle to lower the TB a little with the Holley though.

Well I’ll I guess I’ll keep the dorman for now. It’s not that bad. I found a fast 92. My buddy has it, we have to agree on price, then I’ll get it. I’ll probably sell the dorman. It does seem to make good power, I ported mine before putting it in. Seemed to make a noticeable difference in the mid and top end. Revved freer.

The FAST intakes definitely perform well n/a but some do think they're a risk with boost.

That said, failures really dont seem that common, and certainly few if any at low boost

well what a good choice then? I mentioned ls2, nope that’s no good. Then I said sheetmetal. Someone else says that’s no good. Then I mention I can get my hands on a fast. Now that’s no good for boost either? So what’s a good choice then?

No. I said FAST does perform well everywhere, but some have concerns about ability to hold boost. You probably wont be using enough boost to have any concerns

Sheet metal would cover dozens of options with a wide range of quality and cost. You only specifically mentioned the cheap Chinese Holley. It does look good, people have burst them too, the quality is poor and intakes of that overall design generally no nothing until 6k upwards

ProFlo is a very good one...but would you have the room ?

Although the OEM LS6 is probably one of the most proven intakes out there ! Hence they're popular and demand a high price. The BBK type I mentioned would be on a similar level to the LS6, maybe a little better with the caveat being the metal plate that seals the base.

Really, there are many options....same with cams. None will actually hinder you making power, because these engines just make power easily.

So Any updates on LS2 intake issues? Especially after seeing the Dorman LS2 performs much better than an OEM LS2 and almost identically to the TBSS truck intake, it seems like a great option if it holds up.
