Default First turbo build, had a couple questions

Ok, so going with a gen 3 5.3. Forged pistons, h beam rods.
Holley turbo manifolds, vs s480 clone. Should I wrap manifolds? Also need to fig out wastegate. Was thinking 50-60 mm. Any good knockoffs? Or should I spend the $$ get a good one. Any recommendations ? Thanks

I went with the 45mm Hypergate from turbosmart, seems to work well in my initial testing. I would wrap the manifolds if its not gonna completely **** your spark plug clearance, which if i remember correctly will probably be fine.

I mean I've heard decent things about the knock off wastegates. A hypersmart is quite pricey. Just remember though, the extra couple of dollars you spend on a quality wastegate could be what saves your engine. I went with JGS stuff. Things like wastegates in my mind are things that shouldn't be skimped on .

Where is everybody buying pipeing, flanges etc.. ? I need to connect turbo to Holley manifold, and provide flanges for wastegate and 02 sensors etc. so I guess I'm gonna have to build that pipe since I haven't seen a t6 flange with a wastegate mount. I do own a tig, so if I can find the pipes etc I should be able to pull it off lol. I think I'm just gonna go with a quality gate and save the headache

So you should be able to get it all from Columbia River Mandrel Bending. The website is mandrelbends.com I hope that doesn't break a rule but its simply a place to buy piping and flanges.

If you buy a turbosmart, it will have a matching flange in the box. Since I bought a pre-done turbo kit, I did not need it. Aside from that, everything turbo related can be found on ebay in the millions.

Depending on how low of boost you want to run, I would consider running two wastegates. A single 45mm gate might not be enough and you will run into boost creep issues.

I was thinking this also. What about a 60 mm? Any downfall to running 1 lg ? I don't see this truck seeing under 10 lbs but you never know.

I can't see any reason why on this set up you would want to run 2 wastegates. There is no need. Run a single and size depends on how much air it needs to bypass if you are using a turbo that's way too big you will need a large wastegate. If it's pretty optimal a standard one will be more than enough.

Ok so looking at the VS racing s480 clone. What would work best with the Holley turbo manifold ? T4 or t6? Also have to fig out fuel system. Was gonna go with a FI c10 tank with the factory sender and try to hang 2 450s on it with 1 on a Hobbs switch.
