Default Economy blow off valve

What are you guys using that's budget yet reliable, something that wont break the bank. I was looking at the Turbo Smart one for $129, prob don't need a huge one.

I've used the $45 Tial knockoffs on a few projects. No complaints.

I purchased two $10 OEM 2004 WRX bypass valves from ebay about 10 years ago, work just fine. They hold up to 15psi no problem. OEM quality.

Most of them seem to come with alumn. weld on flanges, I use steel, there are some steel flanges but not sure if they are designed to fit these valves.
They all seem to be the same, just diff names, lol.

They should fit. My cold side is steel so I had to buy a steel flange separately to mount that BOV. Worked out just fine.

Do you ever worry about that? Seems like one of those things not everyone is ever going to agree on. Some run BOV some don't.

Been like it past 2 years although not a huge amount of usage.

I did have one for a while after I changed from the Vortech to turbos, but I changed some pipework and couldnt be bothered welding up another flange etc for the BOV and just ran without.

Although also since changed to DBW in the middle of last year...so you can play with throttle blade openings a bit that would allow airflow but not affect the actual feel of driving when lifting foot off the pedal etc.

When I first started running Prochargers, I didn't run a valve-at cruise I would get a surging (hence surge valve, lol) once I installed the valve, it eliminated it. I run them, works for me.

Superchargers are very different though as they're always pumping lots of air, they must have a means of venting when not under load.

procharger and turbocharger BOV's operate differently. Don't "need" one on a turbo. And you don't run a turbo style valve on A SC.

They operate exactly the same way. I just used the Big Red when I changed to turbos.

Main difference is softer springing in the SC application so it will open much easier, although some will also have a much higher diaphragm to valve ratio again to ensure more force to open/close it more easily.

Yes and no… out of the box they operate a little differently. I’m sure you could put a lighter spring in a “turbo BOV” and filter it, but most aren’t going to do that.

SC applications are made to stay open at idle and cruise… Turbo stuff is not. Most of the super charger BOV’s that come with the kits are designed differently as well with a mechanical arm on them. They generally don't seal as well either and should be filtered.
