Default 70 Split Bumper 5.3 turbo build question

Kind of a junkyard build here, ordered the vsracing kit and other goodies, my question is how much will I benefit from running a Fast 102 intake vs an ls6 or a cheap eBay high rise? I know it will give me room to grow, but not overly concerned with that.

Your money is probably better spent elsewhere such as the fuel system or efi system

I honestly believe intake choice is not super important with a turbo build. Go the cheapest route possible or the one you like the look of best if that is more important to you. Like was said money probably better spent elswhere like a better converter cause that is super important.

I know the 4l60e isn't going to hold much, but I have a 2800 stall coming already. Basically, I have about $2k left in the budget for the engine. Already have stall, turbo kit, cam, headers, injectors, fuel pump, 3 bar map sensor. .. what am I missing?

Just as added information, this won't be a race car. . it's all show and occasional go. I know it's kind of overkill for that, but it's what I want lol. Suspension is done, Wilbro brakes around and paint is a couple months down the road

Use whichever intake you like the appearance of. The ugly truck intake is hard to beat, its proven it can make power. I agree with the others thats money better spent on something else, i would look into a 4l80e and sell off a WORKING 4l60e. Before its a not working 60e lol

An LS6 intake can break the budget anymore, lol-an LS1 looks good and works well, that would be my choice. The truck ones are pretty much free, but are taller, and some done like the look, although the cover helps.

Intakes just not needed. Run another 2 pounds of boost and you’ve just made more power than you’d gain from a 102 intake…

Good water/meth kit would be a plus. Fuel system that can handle E85 would be even better.

Th400 and a tall gear would be nice. I’m not a fan of the huge heavy OD transmissions. Don’t need it with a turbo build most of the time. Plenty of power to pull a tall gear. I run a 2.73 and Th400… will do 140ish in 2nd gear. 3rd gear becomes like an OD. Also no need for trans control then. But you do need a good converter IMO.

If you have 2000 more ditch that 4l60. Youll hate your car by the time your done dicking with it. Get a th400 and run a tall rear gear or get a 4l80 and run a regular gear. Good converter is a must either way. Youll have to get a yoke and have the driveshaft shortened but nothing sucks worse yhen building a nice car with a badass engine and constantly screwing with a junk trans. I did it with the 6l80 on mine which in my opinion is a 6 speed 4l60 power holding wise. After the first failure i had a 1200 hp one built the time i was done with that trans failing 7 times i was ready to get rid of my car. I didnt and its been 2 years with my home built 4l80 with a ptc converter and i couldnt love it more. Rant over. Sorry

If you're running a factory hood you won't have much room for a truck intake or holley.
Go with the LS6/1 and a factory TB and be done, the 4L60 gets a bad rap but if you're not making crazy power a budget built 4L60 will work.
Honestly I'd listen to these guys though and go TH400 with a high rear gear, lots of guys around here do it because the OD's kept giving them issues and they street drive their rigs frequently.

Was 44lbs last I checked. I believe a good hunk of that is "unsprung" rotational weight as well. Physically much larger and computer controlled. Nothing wrong with the trans, just more of a hassle for a typical hotrod IMO.

No much of a hassle for those of us using a factory ecu and harness. For guys like you running an aftermarket ecu I could see it being more trouble.

If just occasional go, get whatever intake you like. A Holley Hi-Ram just barely clears my 4" cowl on my 73, but that also would depend on what engine mounts you are using as well.

Also, like others have said, get rid of the 4l60 unless you like your car parked/broken
