Default Anyone running Sloppy stage 2 cam

I used the cam in my 5.3, it was 228/330, having a hard time getting idle quality.
There may be other things going on, working thru them, but with the Holley HP I
cant seem to keep it stable. Orig I had a bad IAC, replaced it, helped. Kind of wondering
if I could have hurt the 02 sensor, maybe reading off. It just decides to quit, no
reason. Running a comp. test this morn., replacing plugs again. Using LS3 coils,
wondering if something is diff with them.

This is the kind of issues that pop up when something gets so popular that everyone thinks it'll work for every combination ever.

I’m running a cam similar in specs and I can’t get an idle I’m happy with. I didn’t realize I’d have to idle it at 800 when I bought it. I was thinking 700ish would do. From 700-800 it uses a lot more fuel at idle. Right now it’s doing ok at 775 but I’m taking it out and putting probably 10 degrees less duration. It’s a 227/234 in a 5.7 so if you’ve got that size in a 5.3 then I feel your pain

I used a similar duration cam last year in a 4.8, it liked to idle at 850 with about 20* advance. It could have idled lower but with a loose converter it was good enough for me.

Update-I built a new tune, fixed an exhaust leak, found #7 inj plug loose, now the car runs
great-goes in gear and doesn't die, and has *****-I still may change the cam later, but now
it runs and drives as it should.

Any more experience with this cam yet??? How are you liking it so far??

I have this cam ready to go in. I knew it wasn't going to be as great as a custom spec cam but still a significant step up from stock, and it's cheap, and it's under .600 lift.... and and and.....

You had me a bit concerned, this cam is the one that's in my build that likely wont start til the fall.

It's still a good cam as long as $150 is a fair deal of money to you. Try and keep things in perspective. If you want a cool sounding car with 500 wheel as cheap as possible...SBE, China turbo, good springs and this cam will get you there.

If you don't want a cammed car sound you can get damn close on a stock truck cam.

I had a chance to drive it more today, now working on the trans tune, shift points, lockup. it
does fine. Even with the tighter converter, it handles it well. The vac. is a little weak
for the power brakes, but that's always iffy depending on booster size, etc. With the
VS 83/75 it lights off pretty quick.

just got mine running last night with the sloppy 2 stage cam. idles at 550 ish. i haven't touched the tune yet since i wasn't even sure it would start! truck has been apart for months.
sounds good despite the too quiet stock exhuast. haven't driven the truck yet. following the sloppy formula. next will be 80e then a china 78/75 turbo.

Does sound good. Do you think it’ll actually drive and not die with a 550rpm idle? I’m thinking it probably won’t. I can get my 227/234 btr stage 2 cam to idle at 570 but it ain’t driveable that way. I’m actually looking for a milder cam that would idle at 600 or less and make good power with my 7875 on3 turbo.

Heres a video of it idling that low. But you can’t drive it like this.

Confused myself, I was looking at this 228/230 and the 220/224 back last fall when I bought the cam. I did order/install the 220/224 in mine, no matter just realized I posted here on the wrong camshaft!

The 220/224 is a far better turbo cam.

Where are you finding it for $150?

$150 is the rough difference in cost between a turbo specific grind from big jim's turbo emporium (or a custom comp with lobes you like} and the "sloppy stage 2"

Not anymore. I am on the short duration high lift bandwagon at the moment.
