Default Ls7 Intake Opinion


Anyone have any experience with this intake manifold in a boosted application?

Who makes it? Haven't seen that one before but being on Ebay it's more than likely a chinese knock off of something else and will probably split at the seams in a higher boost configuration.

Actually the company is from Arizona, made in the USA.http://www.tatummotorsports.com/tatumcars.php They build sand cars and trucks on top of their parts business. Looks like a quality piece, just was wondering if anyone had any real life experience with this manifold.

All those intake say made in USA. They arnt, it's the same China intake you can get for $177 on eBay

What kind of boost are you going to be running? If it's 20 psi or less I would be using the stock LS7 intake for sure. The only reason to replace the LS7 intake with an aftermarket metal one is that the LS7 intake manifold will start to crack and eventually blow up over 20 psi of boost.

The base where the injectors go, flange that bolts to head etc look nothing like the typical Chinese intakes.

Plenum and TB flange does though

Everything execpt the body of the intake is supposed to be billet aluminum.

Yeah looking to make over 1500 so I’m sure the boost pressure will be over 20#.

Same basic concept and design as the $173 one on ebay.
Quality is nicer, but I wouldn't expect it to perform any better.

I also wouldn't expect to it outperform the stock LS7 intake, just as the LS3 version doesn't outperform the stock LS3 intake.

In that case go with a manifold that actually had some airflow modeling done on it and wasn't just thrown together with sheet metal. LME billet or Plazmaman, pricey but for a reason. It's too bad OE LS7 intake manifolds can't take the pressure like LS3s, LS6s, etc because the only ones worth buying aftermarket are $$$.

I don’t have a hood clearance issue. Although LME and Plazmaman intakes are pretty and work, it’s designed for hood clearance so it can sell to the masses. I think with that low design a little is left on the table as far as power band is concerned. If I had a Corvette I would be buying one of them. To spend that kind of money and not get exactly what I need, doesn’t seem plausible. I could go with a SM custom billet but that’s 8.5k.😳 Holley Hi-Ram works but I don’t like the look of it. The Tatum manifold is a hybrid billet/sheetmetal design that’s reasonably priced. Wanted to find someone in the drag racing community that had experience with it as their company is big in the sand truck community.

You haven't said what vehicle this is in, what the actual engine combo is, or if it's going to be a turbo or supercharged setup so we are guessing right now. That company is big in the sand community because sand guys tend to just buy what looks shiny or has a name they recognize, not what works well.
