Which turbo for 370? Twins or Big single?

Default Which turbo for 370? Twins or Big single?

I know it's been cover a million times... but I want your thoughts and opinions on two specific combinations which are, 370" forged shortblock 317's tbss Intake, custom ground cam and now the turbos.. I been thinking about using a pair of VS racing billet 78/75's like what Barry cook used on the blazer with a treadstone air to air e85 and water meth. Or I just seen ON3 has a billet 94mm turbo. This will be in an 88 notch shooting for 2750-2900 with me in it. I like that the ON3 unit has a stainless turbine housing but I can get the 78/75's pretty cheap from a friend who is a dealer. Let me know your thoughts. Trying to make 1250-1400 rwhp. The car is getting 25.5.

IF the ON3 94mm has a proper sized turbine (BIG) to drive it that would work fine for a track car. But if not, a properly spec'd 88mm will walk all over it. Twin CAST 66mm turbos can make roughly 1200whp on a 408, no idea if that is really pushed.... so I doubt you need to use 78mm turbos....

Agreed. Pair of billet 62s will make 1200-1300.

I just looked at the On3. Has a 103mm turbine. So probably enough for the 370.

Another option is the S488 and S491 from FI with the 100mm 1.56AR T6 turbine. That would easily make what you are looking for assuming the 370 holds together.

The car will be driven for drag week just to have fun as well, and I should rephrase it it will not be 25.5 right away but I am going to put the 25.5 bars in that are difficult to add later. I know if I go s400 frame turbo I will need at least a 100mm turbine wheel. I was just intrigued by trying to use a set of the off shore VS racing billets 78's since their what Barry cook used to make 1400 and I can pick them up for $800 for the pair. I've dealt with Jose at FI in the past great guy just not sure if I wanna spend that on this car when we can achieve the power level on Chinese units. Although I know their not nearly as efficient. Is their any reasonably priced borg box unit out their that would be great and that can be upgraded later in terms of covers, wheels, etc? Thanks again for the replies

I think a cast 480 can be upgraded to anything later. And it's 899. Would make a lot of steam as it comes from Borg... 96 T6 1.32 trim.

Any idea what kind of power that 80mm unit would make? I assume I would run out of turbine near 1000-1100? Maybe not? Basically I'd like to have enough power to crack into the high 7's with the car after sorting it out without completely breaking the bank by the time that happens I can then look into upgrading since the rest of the car will be proven and set up. I have a billet wheel s480 96mm 1.32 t6. On a stock 6.0 setup. Jose said when i got it built tht is should be good to 1350. From what ive learned with turbos is its better to have something with quick spool and not choke. The larger turbos seem laggier but make the power up top. Its a trade off. With twins its easier to get the best of both!!

To upgrade that s480 latter is just the same as buying another turbo. I know because I went that way. Cheaper to just buy the one you want at first.

Okay makes sense, I'll talk with Jose and see what we can do. So we've covered options on doing a single any opinions on budget friendly twins? Plumbing doesn't bother me so no worries their.

Twins is the way to go these as cast s366s have done 1200 on 25#s on a 370 my guess is a set of s369s or a pair of 72mm will get u there it's a trade off tho it sucks that borg makes such good turbos and there so damn big this one s366 is bigger than a precision 7675 but I managed to make room for 2 in the bumper of a new edge mustang. it's really about what u can afford I'd buy the best I could afford in the smallest physical package. I keep saying I'm gonna get a pair of the garret 5862 or 5860 I forgot the numbers just to see how quick I can light them off and how much I make up top just for *****

Dime anymore Info on your build with the cast 366's? How laggy are they on the 370? And at 25 lbs did it seem like you were running out of turbo or that's as hard as you pushed them this far? I'm not concerned with space we are cutting the front end of the car off in front of the strut towers so it will be tubular and thinking about incorporating two Maven mounts somewhere in their too. Have you measured backpressure with the 66's?
