Default Wanting some opinions on my boost set up.

To start I know it’s a truck but there’s more people with experience here on ls1tech and most of my google searches brings me here to ls1tech

2012 GMC Sierra crew cab 4x4 with a 5.3 with 243 heads and a 6l80e. delete vvt/afm or DOD BTR stage 3 truck cam with a 3200 stall. I have a KB racing turbo kit with a Warner billet S369 on a T4. Head gasket .040. Looking for around 600hp it’s my weekend truck and it’s what I use for long trips so need it gas pump friendly

been reading on ls1tech and most people use 317 heads for boost to lowered compression That’s with stock bottom end I do plan on getting some forge pistons and rods but I wanted to see if I could get a -10 dish piston so I would lowered my compression down so I could use my current 243 heads. I use online calculador and I got the following compression numbers (Ls1 with 243 and -10 dish pistons compression around 9.4-:1)

E-mail some well known shops and 1 agreed with a -10 dish piston I should be around 9.4-9.5 a different shop suggested a -3 dish piston for my set up.

sorry if is a thread the has been explained all ready just let me know and I will delete it.

Thank you

No need to lower compression. Run what you have. Water/meth, a large intercooler, and a good tune. You'll be fine.

No 317's on a 5.3....itll make compression very low as Joe said. I would use the 243's you already have

Keep the compression higher. It helps spool time and will make the truck more spunky out of boost. With the bigger cam your running you will be money ahead keeping the compression higher. Nothing sucks more then a good size cam lower compression and a heavy vehicle. It will be way down on power out of boost. I was the biggest cam possible in a stock engine kinda guy when i was a kid so i have experience with that mistake. Save your self the disappointment.

Not a 5.3 on a Ls1 5.7 i pick up a short block and wanted to use it instead of my 5.3 but I wanted to go with forge pistons with rods.

Use the 5.3 you have now. Stock rods/pistons. No reason to complicate things.

Sorry, didn't see where you said you were going to swap to a 5.7.....but for your goals I wouldn't and wouldn't touch the bottom end.

I should be better with compression been around 10 instead 9.5 since I have a heavy *** truck. Think I’m just going to turbo 5.3 how it is and save Ls1. Thank you for the response yeah it’s my first build
