Default Turbo log/mani/xover

So I was bumping around this morning and ran into these
Amazon Amazon

it's a complete log/mani/xover from MMI Motorsports for $675. I think I'm going to continue with my DIY truck manifold setup but when those crack because I can't weld for **** I think these might find a place in my truck.

Anyone else running these with any luck?

I can't see that wastegate location working very well. It only feeds off one bank.

I see where you are coming from but I think Mr. Physics would argue back pressure is equal thru the entire system. Maybe there is a slight imbalance due to velocity/distance but I don't believe it would be enough to worry about, this is also where I plan to put my wastegate anyway.

Seriously just weld the wastegate position shut and move it to bend in the manifold going up to the turbo. The wastegate would work awesome there. If they can weld a wastegate to turbine housing like everyone does then you should be able to weld it to that manifold. Plus that wastegate flange is to small to really control boost to the low ranges anyway. I had mine on the 90 to the turbo on a 6.2 with an s480 and because of the placment a single 44 waste gate would control boost down to 2 pounds. Im telling you for max boost control wastegate placment is pretty damn important. Of course all of that is just my opinion.

All the kbracing and trick kits have the wastegate in the same location. They have no issues controling boost with a properly sized wastgate.

I'll be running a small 76/65 turbo and am thinking a 38mm gate will be fine.

As said, the turn to the turbo is best, that's what I used-but guys are using the shown location,
but I think I would want to run a larger wastegate there, and at an angle.

The seller indicated the manifold was cast iron not cast steel which I believe increases the difficultly to mod the mani.

Here was another kit I was looking at, this one has a better location I guess but the cross over is a slip fit. I "think" a band clamp can be used here but I think I'd rather do a vband and possibly add some flex pipe. Again this all assumes I buy it after my crappy welds crack...

If you want a truck setup that will fit and last then you should get one of these. http://www.kbracing.net/about.html

What in your kits fits a '74 with low mount AC, I assume manifolds and xover, does the down pipe?

I have a 69 c10 I built a kit for. As far as I know, they have the same frames so most everything should fit a 74. I think the down pipe would probably fit a factory ac box as I built it to fit a heater box on the 69 and they are pretty big.

It won't really work in that location. Mr Dr Denham had a wastegate in that location on a project (colorado?) and wasn't able to control boost. You're not effectively controlling half of your exhaust volume... you can make basic physics arguments all you want but it doesn't really work

Mine is in the turn going to the turbo. i have no problem controlling boost. If you watch cletus mcfarland, he just build a turbo setup on a vette and the waste gate was place similar to this kit posted and he does have boost creep. mine doesnt creep at all with a 44mm wastegate..

There are literly 1000s of this style of hot side setup in full size Silverado and Sierras on performancetrucks.net running just fine.

For someone to say it doesn’t work because sloppy mechanics had problems with it, especially when he’s known for half *** builds, doesn’t really hold much water.

Well just try it. It works, good. It don’t, then fix it. That’s why I have a welding machine and ****. I just had to fix something on my setup because I didn’t listen to my instinct. A flex joint in my crossover pipe will no longer be used. Just another point of possible failure.
