The filler I use to weld cast costs ridiculous money now. A 5lb tin for me is now almost 2 grand but I am well versed in cast welding and know whats worth using and whats not. Mig? Good luck with that. Even more to do that job up to my par requires two different fillers and two passes along with controlled cool down. I wouldn't do it for 250, id pass. Take that info and do what you want with it, im only aiming to offer some insight to value here

Good looking out, took it to a local muffler shop yesterday morning. Ask what he would need to get me together, he said man.... don't worry about it. 20 minutes later I was out the door.

Glad they got it welded up for you that would of been a $20 job around here by actual good welders free at my work, dont see where high price was coming from maybe they were going to TIG it, polish, coat and wrap it for you and possibly install it back for you lol. Totally off the manifold subject and to the heater, got a master 70k btu propane similar to pictured above in my semi insulated garage 10 min on high and toasty.

are you using titanium rod? Inconel? Gold? I’m no professional but All you need is 309l to weld a stainless v band to a cast steel manifold. It gets done like this everyday and it works just fine. truck manifolds (which is the turbo manifold of choice) is made from cast steel. We aren’t welding nuclear reactors here.

Man that's nuts. I don't even bother tig welding my own. I burn em in hot with mig and haven't had an issue. I can see that your a pro but some of you guys that think you need to use these special procedures to weld these stock manis are nuts I'd put my **** up against anyone else's any day.

If you are paying 2 grand for a 5lb tin of any kind of filler rod, could I interest you in a '76 Ford Pinto for a steal at only 3 million dollars?

Side action is one thing, day work keeping shop lights on and family fed price is different. Cost of living where each of us live is VASTLY different as well so no need to bite my head off we all have our own opinions and living circumstances which Im sure is part of the 250 quote. Fast work isnt good and good work isnt fast and quality shop rates arent cheap so its not outrageous to me if the work is tops. There is no nuc cert cast filler I am aware of or I would have tried it. If 309 works for you? It works for you, congrats.

Free weld up wins this thread. The dig comments show true class as ever

Send a couple pizzas to those fine gentlemen, a friend of mine worked at an exhaust shop and installed my cutout for me for free so I bought a couple pizzas for the guys working there.
Little shops like those are where you find the best people sometimes.

Yep, my local exhaust shop will do minor welding jobs for basically free. He actually charged me a dollar because he didn't want the word to get out that he welds for free and people would swamp him with work then LOL.

Being a self-inflating hyper-critcal Instagram welder is such an incredibly weak flex. Functional welds are just fine.

Having a good support brace could have helped mitigate the breakage in this instance.

Not sure if that was pointed my way but if it was you can suck it. I posted pics of my welds, I will be happy to compare money made last month from welding with ANYONE here who doesn't make their entire living as a welder. And I offered to help OP FOR FREE. You're the only one looking self inflated. Oh, and here is O1SS Jr. welding better then 99% of anyone on this website.
