Add value or take a walk... because you read like kingTal0n - only a really simple version.
Not sure if that was pointed my way but if it was you can suck it. I posted pics of my welds, I will be happy to compare money made last month from welding with ANYONE here who doesn't make their entire living as a welder. And I offered to help OP FOR FREE. You're the only one looking self inflated. Oh, and here is O1SS Jr. welding better then 99% of anyone on this website.
You know I went back and re read this thread several times and this is the first time he has posted in the thread. In addition to that he made no mention of you or your skills.
From your response I gather you are a Instagram welder and obviously very self conscious about it.....
And for the record...I think you the only one looking over inflated.

Good stuff right there! Kudos to you and all the others out there who take the time teaching our youth.
Lol, man that's wild! How old is lil dude, 10?? Id say you're doing the right thing by teaching him young. Also teaching him a trade that he can use to earn a living when the time comes.
I think the turbo hanging off the pipework might have contributed to the breakage. I have a support mount on mine. Mainly did it that way so I can take the whole hotside off and the turbo "floats" in position.
+1 for another one that just burns in the manifolds with a plain old fashioned MIG..... So far so good.

No, it wasn't directed at you - not in the slightest. Just an observation about those who choose to look down their noses at those who don't back purge everything or - God forbid - use a MIG. The welding elitists who **** on others of lesser experience can eat a dick, providing constructive criticism is a lost character trait. No one should be afraid to share their work and made to feel inferior for it. But, seriously - good for you teaching your kid a skill; my wife is urging me to get our oldest (almost 6) into the garage to use the metal glue-gun. Buying TIG is on my wish list, but the MIG gets it done for now.

Actually, that response was for SLOW SEDAN who has made a point of routinely contradicting me, but without providing any substantiation or evidence to support his position - just spewing a bunch of anecdotal nonsense. Which is why I wrote what I wrote. Ironically, I am pretty certain I have been nothing short of complementary to you over the years - but, I guess you couldn't be bothered to notice.

He seems to like doing things his other siblings don't. I think its a way to gain independence.

I went to trade school for welding about 15 years ago. I did it for a living for a few years. I got in a bad head on collision and decided to change career fields due to injury. I've owned a welder here since and have always done it for myself and friends. Recently i started selling welded stuff due to work being slow. I'm starting a new job in 2 weeks with a nice raise so it will likely fall back off again.

That's fine I misunderstood. Welding is a subject thats near and dear to my heart but one that I rarely discuss, like you said everyone thinks their an expert. Gets annoying.

This isnt a career choice. It's just fun, a confidence builder.
Being a self-inflating hyper-critcal Instagram welder is such an incredibly weak flex. Functional welds are just fine.
Having a good support brace could have helped mitigate the breakage in this instance.
I know guys that can do textbook perfect welds on brand new, clean metal like every time. Give these same guys a rusty something (anything) from the "field" (in the general sense) and they can't weld it very well at all hahaha. In my opinion it takes more skill to be able to burn through dirty rusty metal (sometimes you can't clean it very well if at all) and make it stick than it does to weld something in a perfectly controlled labratory setting lol. Functional welds are perfect! Wipe birdshit on 'em and call it a day lol.

Very cool that you are involving your kid man. I remember my dad taught me how to weld, albeit a little bit later and I learned on stick before anything else. I remember we were doing things that "you can't do"... Namely we were welding sheet metal wall studs together on a building project instead of taking more time to use fasteners.

Truer words have seldom been spoken.

Gotta ignore the haters, it just feeds into them otherwise.

Doug, I wish you were my neighbor man, we would have much to talk about, turbo LS hotrods, politics, and obviously stinging social social witticism

01ssred, don't take this the wrong way man but you can be kind of overly negative at times. I'm not trying to start a fight here, just saying. We're all on the same team here man. Well those of us that are totally cool with mig welding a hotside out of rusty "junk" exhaust manifolds and the like. I know exactly what you mean about all the self proclaimed welding experts, I kind of know some in person like I mentioned above but also the internet is littered with this. Fun confidence builder, especially for your boy! He will remember moments like that forever! I know I do. And those manifolds look great. There's one lesson I learned from building my first hotside is I wish I would have welded V bands on the manifolds instead of using the factory flanges. But that's how you learn!

I support this. A pencil pusher job may not be glamorous, but it beats sweating it out in a shop all day every day. There have been myriad a thread about keeping work and hobby separate.
Gotta ignore the haters, it just feeds into them otherwise.
I wasn't hating, simply stating my results from multiple setups. Honestly its hardly even worth the time to let others know what has worked in the past, they can learn for themselves since they think they are so smart.
