All this time I thought it was their engines, but it turns out putting a Ford Focus badge on anything destroys it.

Got it running today. Gonna hopefully finish everything up tomorrow. Hopefully it will see the dyno before this weekend is over.

Glad you got it going. Also, I hope you understand that my previous post was meant as light-hearted humor.

Got ready to put the car on the dyno and realized my new mini alternator was dead. Ordered another one. Hopefully i can get it tuned this week.

Also weighed the car today. In full street trim it weighs 2400lbs.

You're not going to surprise anyone with that cam lope...but sounds good!

What's the idea behind not running an intercooler?

Im not running an intercooler bc of space. Not much room. Im only gonna be running less then 10psi for now so IAT's shouldnt be crazy. If they start getting high i will figure something out. Also i am using e85 which should help.

Makes sense. Is that a GT42R?

I put the car on the dyno today to get the low boost tuned. Wasn't able to get very far as i wanted. Temps were in the mid 90's. I was disappointed with the numbers but I dont really have anything to compare to.

car made 460whp 435lbft at 7psi.

Gonna finish installing the boost controller and put it back on the dyno next weekend.

the low numbers at the beginning of the chart are bc of me rolling into the throttle with a big stall.

Those numbers don't seem off. A NA 5.3L should make around 300...so add 50% for 7 psi and you have 460...give or take. Works for me! What was spool like?

I know its not an apples to apples comparison but my old 5.3 made 380whp N/A with a similar cam. So with that in mind i was expecting a little more. but it was also very hot and humid yesterday so im sure there is more in it.

Also the turbo spools up ridiculously fast. Hits full boost immediately.

Oh good. This is just plain fun.

The Holley mid-rise intake has a a2w intercooler that can be sandwiched between the lid and base. But you still may not have room for it. And nothing about that combination is cheap.

You will probably want to use water/meth injection to be safe.

Finally got back from a trip so im gonna get back on it. I am thinking of spraying meth. The holley makes it pretty easy from what i have read. I would imagine that spraying pre turbo would be more effective but i have seen issues with erosion for the compressor wheel. so i may spray post turbo? thoughts?

Also I am trying to figure out how hard i should push it with the gen 3 rods? I have a set of eagles from a previous build. I was thinking about getting a set of summit forged pistons and running the eagle rods and throwing them back in the block stock bore? I just hate to have the downtime of having it balanced right now but we will see. I might just run it for a while with stock stuff and enjoy it. I just dont want to chunk a rod and ruin the block.

When I took the Holley EFI training these was discussion about meth and where exactly to spray it. The general consensus was that spraying before the compressor is more optimal for distribution, but impeller corrosion is a legitimate concern. Spraying post turbo has other concerns, like equal cylinder distribution. The consensus there was that as long as the amount of meth wasn't a significant portion of the overall fueling, that was OK. All that said, I would put the nozzle right after the turbo outlet and before the TB, and spray the minimum amount to get your the drop in AIT that you want.

My meth kit came in today. I got it plumbed and Im going to wire it tomorrow. I ended up installing it near the turbo outlet.

I'm using the sameish turbo on my 5.3 as well. A gt4294 (also because I had it). Curious to see how it does for you.

Made a little progress yesterday. Put the car back on the dyno and worked on the tune. Still have a few bugs to work out but im gonna leave it like it is for now and just enjoy it.

Made 519whp at 9psi.

It seems to really like timing. but i dont want to put too much more in it with the stock ring gap. Also the meth injection worked flawlessly. Dropped temps to 100 degrees.

Weather sucked. It was hot and raining. Probably could have made a little more power if i turned it out further.

That's respectable. Should be a blast in the Focus!
