Default Turbo 5.3 Ford Focus

After catastrofic failure with my 418 NA build i decided to throw a boosted 5.3 in my focus.

As of today most of my parts have arived to get it running. My plan is to get it running na this week then dyno just to make sure this junk yard motor is healthy.

My headers i built work flipped around.

gonna run on a stock motor boosted while i build a motor

Turbo is a Garett GTX 42 with Tial stainless turbine housing
running holley hp system

edelbrock intake

Non intercooled e85.

got the motor running today.

runs great. Has a little blue smoke when you rev it. probably needs valve seals

Compression ratio was perfect.

Gonna dyno next week just to see.

check out my original build thread when you get a chance. It shows my progress from small block Chevy and then 4 ls motors. It’s been quite the journey. Excited about the boost though.
I will post more pics later

I put the stock 5.3 on the dyno today and as soon as I put any load on it the motor started knocking. Go figure. I just cant catch a break with motors. I guess thats what i get for buying a motor off ebay.

That sucks ***..
No Salvage yards in the area? Normally you get to hear them run, yard drive, compression test, etc before they drop them out. Doesn't catch every problem but sure beats picking up someone elses previously enjoyed failure.

Couple of small updates.

I got an aluminum 5.3 today.

I am gonna start working on mocking up everything this week,

I bought a radiator for a jeep cherokee and it fits perfect tucked up behind the bumber. gives me more room for the turbo. Plus it is actually larger than my old radiator which was for a bmw

gonna fab up everthing then swap in the good motor.

So apparently I cannot catch a break with salvage motors. The aluminum 5.3 i bought was full of water. After talking to the salvage yard, they said, "sometimes the wash boy gets carried away with the pressure washer".

Anyway I pulled the heads off and cleaned out the engine. Had minor surface rust that washed off with oil. Gonna use this as an opportunity to add studs.

Also got some more fab work done. Made the collector.
