Default Turbo noise
After a couple passes my LS 421 98mm turbo started making a weird whining noise and a small oil spilled out the housing. After farther inspection a small amount of rubbing had occurred against the housing. The shaft bearings was replaced shaft torqued to specs and Turbo reinstalled and weird noise still exist. Has anyone experienced this Weird NOISE?

I had a gt45 88m. Cxeacing turbo make a wierd noise loke that it was the bearing cover behind the turbo rubbing due to thrust bearing issues.

The good news is that you got a deal on an inexpensive turbo. The bad news is that you got a cheap turbo. Replace it before it sends pieces through your motor.

Sorry wrong not inexpensive turbo but a Precision 98mm Thanks for your help.

You mentioned rubbing? Then mentioned replacement of bearings. Was the compressor wheel replaced too?

Sorry, I drunkenly quoted the wrong post. I was referring to the guy with the CX racing turbo that made a similar noise. In your case, it would seem there is no good news at all.

I clearanced the bearing cover with a punch and a hammer and that turbo is still making boost and 700+ hp on my buddies junk yard 5.3 for 4 years now. I would have junked it and went with something else but he doesnt seem to be worried about it.

Are you saying you took the turbo apart yourself ? and rebuilt it ?
