Called having a good tuner that knows how to keep them alive.

My gen 3 5.3 makes little over 700 wheel right now and its a conservative tune on 20#

look up cesar enriquez on youtube. like every video is a 800+ rwhp 4.8 pickup truck.

i can only speculate from some of the hints he drops now and then but it appears he keeps the timing very mellow until after peak torque and then spins them to 8k maybe higher.

I feel like the tuning window is so large with E that if you blow it up at less than 1000hp you shouldn't be tuning it

Honestly I think a large part of it is understanding how to tune them now. Everyone paid 10k cause they threw high dollar parts thinking it was needed to keep them alive....and still blew them up.

ahh yes. good fuel, soft timing at peak TQ will keep an engine alive for a looong time.

low piston speed+high cylinder pressure=broke ****

**** you know that's right. We spend $3000+ on a set of heads hoping to pick up 30 numbers over ported stock heads.....and don't even get me started on the intakes...

Well not me, my **** is slow.

I remember clearly, back in '96, the fast guy in town was running high 9s...around 140 or so (468 with a nice sized solid roller and a pro shot fogger), and he was one to be feared. The guy had that car since high school (81 berlinetta) and over the years stepped up to a 632 mountain motor, still on the gas. He went from being the man, to everyone taking turns running out of his life. This was being done by unassuming f bodies, and many other full weight, garden variety type cars with small CI motors, accompanied by snails under the hood. As it is now, to be half way respectable, you need an 8 second car that traps at least 170 smh.

What’s considered soft timing?
