Default Opinions on 418 capability

I know it depends on a lot of variables but I am going to lay out my build I want to know who thinks it can take 30 pounds .

Currently running 23psi with 18 degrees of timing on e85.
ls3 block with a 4.08 wiseco pistons. -15cc dish . 10:1 compression .

callies compstar crank and rods . All ARP hardware . PRC heads .

Cam is a 233/241 .607/.614 117+5

ive been beating on it all season and am running aHolley termi x max through a TH400 .

I see guys running junkyard motors at higher boost levels . Why can’t I? I’d love some opinions , I am going to do it anyway lol

My opinion is, unless this motor is in a limousine/hellcat, you had better be flirting with 7s with those cubes and that kind of boost. And had better be trapping 175+.

I street race. We don’t have a track here and I live at an average of 7500Da . 23 pounds is a high five in the 1/8th on a dragy . It’s a fifth gen Camaro . 3500 pounds

keep an eye on the intake temps if you are going to try that much boost. and back that timing off up there. your getting to the point where 4 bolt heads lift if you do anything wrong at all.

good advice. I have the timing coming down as the boost goes up. I lifted some heads last year at around 23 pounds but had a much higher compression ratio.

I know E85 is good...but still sounds like a hell of a lot of boost for that CR.

interesting, so you feel like its more a detonation issue then like a block or head capability?

well detonation and peak cylinder pressures will kill any block/head combo.

Either way, to make best use of the block you have, run at least 625 head studs, or upgrade to 1/2" studs.

And LS9 gaskets are great, but the Athena fire ring gaskets could also be of use too.

I dont think the 4 bolts aspect alone will be a major problem though.
