Default Torqamp Electric Supercharger

Anyone think this could achieve decent results on an LS?

It comes with a lithium polymer battery that is boosted to 48V from the stock charging system......I was more concerned around the SIX lb/min of airflow lol

It doesn't exist yet. It's a Kickstarter.

How the hell would you control boost? Have some kind of variable resistor that increases current based off of Throttle Position?

It's an electric motor. Boost control would be far easier than current methods since you can directly and precisely control the RPM of the compressor.

These wont be offered for an LS anytime soon, they just aren't big enough and the motors to move that much air would have to be much much bigger.

They sent one of these to Cleetus and he did a video on it. Put it on a cobalt and made like 40more horse or something. Really works lol

Wonder how long until an F1 MGUH style turbo starts seeing mass production??
For those who don't know its more or less a turbo with electric motor hooked to the shaft. You can send electricity to it to build boost instantly when you want it, and use it as an alternator to charge its battery when there is enough exhaust flow, or on decell

I'm pretty sure it made 20hp from the NA baseline. It lost 20hp when they put the thing on and didnt turn it on....then picked up 40hp from that by turning it on....which isnt truly adding 20hp to the baseline of what the engine was without it.

and for the record, that "turbo" is way too small to feed a v8.....its needs to be quite a bit bigger and turn more rpms. This will become a reality once all of that is figured out.

I don't see this being cost effective and that's just the basic problem. It would only support a 2.0 LTR @3 psi, so just get a junkyard turbo for $50 off any import. Cletus still did a tune for it, so there's that.

Very well could but here is the issue... a turbo is nearly free power generates from the waste of the engine anyways. Only benefit of running a turbine with a electric motor is bringing in the turbo whenever needed rather than working around the exhaust, housing and turbine, cubes, cam.... you just turn it on and it goes all the rpms.

but in a drag racing application, we have other more cost efficient ways to get around the turbo power curve.

idk I’m just thinking out loud but I can’t see it really being a sensible alternative to exhaust driven turbos.

This isn’t quite true ... it ran 123hp baseline, then dropped 13hp to 110hp with torqamp connected but off. Then rose to 146hp with torqamp on and then 157hp with torqamp on and better fuel.
That is definitely a positive result.
