Also , what wastegate should I use ? I was thinking 60mm . Too big? I’m gonna use the Holley boost control with on board air .

Depends on boost and power goals for WG size. Usually people go with a 44mm. For placement, take a look at the pic in the 2nd post:

Get the placement right and a 44mm should work. 60mm won't hurt though.

I would go with a 60mm and I used Tricon/Stainless Bros for piping and Monkey Fab for flanges and V-bands.

Stainless is by far the easiest metal to weld. It flows like butter. Make sure your fit up is real good and tight. Purge with argon or use flux on the inside of the joint.
Use 308 rod... use 309 when welding SS to mild.Personally I just build stuff out of mild/aluminized steel. It’s cheaper and less prone to cracking

Does your Alpha Tig not have a foot control? I never wed without mine. Regulate welding amps with your foot.

And for the wastegate I would just buy a 50mm. JGS has a very nice wastegate made here in the good ole US of A. I’ve never had a lick of trouble from their products.

^ what he said. I probably put the dial at 100 amps, and weld at around 70-75A on 16g

the headroom is for getting going and doing naughty stuff like long-arcing into tight merges

super sharp tungsten 1/16 or 3/32 is fine. I use a #8 gas lens on stainless.

move fast and precise. do a couple "fake" passes so you can see where your torch hand will rest

let er rip

May I suggest you place the turbo somewhere that you can get a decent sized filter on it, especially if it’s street driven.

I agree with 3 window. Get a big filter and put it on the turbo then find the place where it fits good. I didnt do this and ended up with a pretty screwy filter mount that would suck in water when it rained no matter what i did. Only bad thing about have my turbo set up.

Well I was thinking of cutting hole in rad support so filter would end up in near grille area . My buddy wants to keep fender wells, and if I put turbo back any more , pipe will look like an s.
I'm gonna order some pipe etc and see what I can come up with . Also gotta fig out turbo mount . Do I need a flex in anything if I weld a mount to frame ?

i would say yes. on the brown car i just made a little pedestal with a valve spring welded to the end. seems to work ok. not 100% tidy looking though.

put the wastegate in a turn before the turbo as close to it as you can. Imagine the exhaust gases trying to make that turn but run straight into the wastegate. If you do that, you'll have really good control over it with even a 44mm. I highly recommend skipping the china wastegate and getting a name brand like a tial. I went through this already and cheaped out on a wastegate......thats one place to not cheap out.....if it gets stuck shut (like mine did) then it could cost you a motor. Luckily i had my tune set to throw a bunch of fuel at it if it mechanically overboosted. and i let off quickly.
