Default 78/75 on Lq9, or?????

So my current setup is a gen3 4.8/4l80e, 220/224 cam, deka 80s, AEM400 pump, VsRacing 78/75 (cast not billet) on a log manifold, 93oct, no meth, 3.08 gears, 1973 Chevelle thats prob around 4,100lbs w/ me in it. Mostly for having fun on the street, and might take it to the track 3-4x a year.

So I just picked up a 06 Lq9 for a good deal that will be going in the car shortly with a BTR stg 2 turbo cam, and Im concerned that the 78/75 will be on the small side for the 6.0 and choke it out. Im not looking for 1k rwhp, but will be shooting for 7-750 eventually.

What Im wondering is if it would be worth it to swap the 78/75 to either the new VSracing gen2 78/75, or what Im really looking at is their new t4 billet 80/82 https://turbo4less.com/product/vsr-8...87x82-turbine/ but not sure if either would be a big enough step up from the cast 78/75 on the 6.0 to justify the money spent. Going to a t6 is not really an option at this point as the hot side is setup for the t4 and its already tight on space where it is now with the t4.

might be pushing it to get 750 on pump gas, but a 7875 on a 6.0 is a ****** awesome street combo. almost like a PD blower

Just quoting for truth. Seems like people forget that low end torque tends to make street cars more fun.

Thanks for the replies. When Im ready to turn it up itll get a meth kit installed and a 2nd fuel pump, Id like to go e85 but the closest station is 45min to an hour drive from me.

Im more concerned with the turbo being too small to make the power Im looking for when Im ready to turn it up. I do understand itll be fun to drive with the 78/75, but it also gets raced in mexico frequently which is why im going 6.0 and looking to step up the turbo. I still need to upgrade the converter and rear before I turn it up, but id like to have a turbo I can grow into with the 6.0l, and its easier to swap turbos (and rebuild cold side and downpipes if necessary) while everything is apart to change motors.

You're better off sticking with the 4.8 and turning it up or finding a 5.3. The 6.0 isn't near as strong.

How is a '06 LQ9 with gen4 rods not as strong as a '00 4.8? And I figure the 6.0 will make better power on less boost and drive nicer in a 4000+lbs car with 3.08 gears.

The block is weaker. Has nothing to do with the rotating assembly inside the block.

Im not looking to make a ton of power, 7-750 is the end goal. I doubt the block will have any issues at that power level.

Meanwhile can we get back to the turbo sizing for a 6.0? Its getting the 6.0 regardless as I already have other plans for the 4.8, and the 4.8 on 15psi was not enough in a heavy car.

15 psi is NOTHING on a 4.8. it's already been said that 750whp will be tough with that turbo on a 6 liter especially on an auto.

Yea I wasnt trying to kill it as I needed the 4.8 to live so I can use it in another project. And also Im still only on pump 93.

But the whole point of this thread was to get recommendations on a turbo that will work with the 6.0, not what motor I should be putting in my car.
So far Ive been looking at the VS gen2 78/75 and their new 80/82.

for reals i'd just pass the 7875 by and go straight to the s480. my cammed six liter and the big turbine s480 made ~700 wheel on 16 psi and was still plenty of fun to drive on the street coz the cubes.

45 min one way is a haul. maybe get a drum? Its only 20 min away for me and i'm gonna get a drum this year.

Not at all, Im still looking for thoughts on what t4 turbos I should be looking at for the 6.0.
I appreciate your advice and insight, but Im already committed to using the 6.0 in this car (the 4.8 is headed to a lightweight turbo foxbody build).

My issue is I dont think I have the space for a t6, and my hotside is built around a t4, otherwise I would definitely spend the money on an t6 s480. And a t4 s480 with the big turbine is unfortunately out of my price range

Yeah I think theres a total of 3 stations in all of NJ that sell e85, although there is a rumor that theres a station being built 15 minutes down the road that will have e85, so fingers crossed on that, but until then Im gonna stick with 93.

Just my thoughts, your results may vary, lol-the 6.0 will produce more torq, good
for a heavy car. I have always run 6.0's, but did run a 5.3 on a lighter car. Prob your
exhaust is 3-3.5 off the turbo now, you will prob have to step up to 4" if going to a
larger turbo, so you need the room. If your going with a VS turbo, might call Viren
and get his opinion, but guys on here have used a lot of diff combo's. I have
a VS 83/75 billet, prob a copy of the BW S475, but it prob has its limits, def needs
free flowing exhaust, no baffled mufflers. A larger turbine would prob help, but
does what I need.

Here’s another opinion.... a t6 flange is approx 1/2 inch bigger on each side so why not just buy an eBay t4 to t6 adapter plate and be able to buy the t6 turbo? The t6 s480 isn’t physically bigger than the t4 version it’s just a slightly smaller flange. Plus the t6 turbos are cheaper. Worst case scenario you can get the s475 sloppy used for like $400.00 and it has the 96/88 turbine. I get the 93 pump fuel thing but your just rolling the dice on the motor above 13ish psi. Why not do pump and meth till e85 shows up? I went through this process with my car. I think if I would have just sat down, made a goal for my self, and purchased well thought out parts right for my combo I would have saved a bunch of money.

Yea Im gonna try calling him sometime next week to see what his recommendations are. Ive been looking at this new turbo from them that might work for me https://turbo4less.com/product/vsr-8...87x82-turbine/ And the car already has a 4" downpipe to a 4" cutout then necked down to a 3" exhaust with a magnaflow knockoff muffler with the current 78/75 setup.

Thanks, I have never seen a t4 and t6 next to each other to compare any hot side size difference. I just assumed (and we all know where that gets ya) that the turbine housing on the t6 stuff was significantly bigger than its t4 counterpart. That t4 to t6 adapter is an interesting option though. Im not planning on trying to push the limits with it on straight pump 93, it will get a meth kit installed eventually, but its just not in the budget at this time. I need to upgrade the rear and the converter before Ill be able to turn it up much past 12-13 psi anyways.

I really enjoy my 6.0 sbe ly6. She is taking the abuse so far. No need to run a t6 for power you want. 78/75 next gen is perfect.
