I have that pin kit and used it many times.

Is that a stock cover?
If you remove the cover does the tool butt up against the oil pump drive?

I took some meas., from the end of my crank to the crank gear, where it jams, is aprx. 1.290, or just under 1 5/16".
If you meas. the tool, the smaller dia length is .830, meas. from where the end where it hits the crank gear to where it steps up.

Either the crank gear isnt on all the way, or someone may have cut some of the crank snout off for some reason. If you rev. it, it will put the drilled end further away from the end of the crank. You could pull the cover, and crank gear, maybe make a spacer to hold the tool out some, and drill it-one caution, when you get to the honing part, be careful, dont make the hole to big. Only other solution would be to use the Procharger style, where you drill thru the front, splits the hole bet the balancer and crank.

I have a crank and gear sitting here.
The length of the crank snout is 3.00"
The length of the stock crank gear/pump drive is 1.725"
Which leaves 1.275" of crank past the gear.

These dimensions are the same gen 3 to gen 4

You might have to pull the pump and measure. Can't imagine the crank snout is too short.

Do you by any chance have an ls7 front cover there? Doesnt look like it. Looks normal depth. Still the crank looks short... but hard to judge from the pics

I photo'd mine when I did it on my LS1

Your crank looks correct.

Wondering, do you have a double roller chain? With the separate oil pump drive?
Might have the wrong drive. They are shorter.

My friend owns ATI, so i sent him an email, I remember a while back I ran into something diff on these things. There is a 918993-1 that is for the front dist. drive setups, verify you dont have the dash 1 tool, although it seems you dont.

The LS4 isn’t mentioned here hardly at all.

I had forgotten all about the LS4, isnt that the sideways mounted engine? If I remember right, the crank is diff in the rear also, takes a smaller FW or something, so I guess they had the shorter snout also.

i believe i have the right kit just a short crank. i removed the oil pump cover and can now fit the tool on backwards which should work just need to make sure its in line with the timing gear sprocket/oil pumpdrive cut out or i will have trouble getting them of. will drop sump+confirm crank no to see if it is an LS4

I didn’t line up my first one with the crank key. After that I did. Sure simplifies things at disassembly down the road.

use a kit that does an axial pin, like a round keyway.

Those radial pins give such low surface area....certainly not the strongest solution.

Cool. That's just how I do it. A little hard to see the lines through the drill fixture, but works great.

That is an LS4 Crank. The LS4 crank uses the same casting but the snout is machined shorter. Same with the rear flange.

I bought an LS4 for parts and wanted to see what was different on the crank. That's when I noticed the casting number was the same on the crank. I Measured the snout just to be sure.
