I bought an LS4 for parts and wanted to see what was different on the crank. That's when I noticed the casting number was the same on the crank. I Measured the snout just to be sure.
thats good to know everywhere i looked gave a different part no for LS4 crank 12568920 which threw me off

Interesting. Hopefully the rear flange being different isn’t an issue for you.

If it's on a stand now....might make sure the crank is what you need, while it's relatively easy to change.

Unfortunately, the Part Number does not always reflect the Casting Number.

I didn't take any pictures of the crank side of the LS4 but I Think it's still sitting in the Scrap Pile. If I can remember, I will get some photos the next time I am there.

It's cheaper to buy the long block rather than just the individual parts I needed from it.

So here is the LS4 with crank still installed with a truck crank from a 5.3 next to it with the same casting number.
tried to also get you guys measurement best I could.
Look closely at the rear snout. It's not machined the same for a standard RWD torque converter. It does also have a thinner rear flange. I locked the calipers at the truck crank thickness for comparison. Anything else before it disappears?

They say the rear flange is 3 MM shorter, so a reg starter prob wont engage properly, and you may have to much converter pull out. You will need a spacer, maybe use the .450 80E spacer and machine it down, or have one made. Prob the converter snout would be made longer to still reg into the crank. Not to ad confusion, just something to think about.

No problem. With your back out in the other post, What about the center portion of the crank where the convertor pilot rides? I didn't take a measurement but you can physically see its smaller.

Yeah looks like the next issue to overcome diameter is the same but it sure is lacking depth once i have measured up i will know what i am dealing with at the minute thinking a modified snout extender and

possibly some off the convertor snout if i need it
