Default Turbo illiterate needs help

So I have a 400 small block that was built for nitrous that I think I want to convert to turbo. It's a 400 with forged internals, 9.4 compression, afr 210s, vic jr and carburated. Pump gas. Looking at the s475 turbo. What is needed to get this done properly and what are realistic costs and expectations? Thanks.

Id recommend going to the sticky at the top of the forced induction section that says the true price of forced induction and reading that. Then the diy truck manifold kit sticky and they should answer all your questions. Some prices probably better now but it will give you an idea at least. You dont have an ls but the list will be the same with specific manifolds to fit your sbc.

Goal is low 9s high 8s. It's a 400 small block. Was going to do nitrous but I'm exploring options.

When you say pump gas are you saying E85 or 93? You're going to at least want some WMI if 93 only but E85 would give you a much better cushion.

That's more manageable. I would go straight to an aftermarket EFI system like the Holley's. You'll have to size the fuel system to handle whatever your power goal is (for high 8's I assumed you'll want 4 digits unless its in a featherweight). You didn't mention what chassis the 400 is in. There are threads on here where people have gone 8's for 8-10k, but assuming you aren't scraping the bins to save money here or there, it's easy to spend 15-20k depending on how fancy you want to get. Fuel system, chassis, cage, safety equipment, trans, ECU system, etc.

3000lbs 68 camaro. 15-20 seems like a lot. This is just a fun street car to beat up on the new guys and new whipple 5.0s. I was looking at the s475, I can build a hotside, ill need whatever manifolds and a blow off, intercooler and carb hat. Want to keep everything mechanical. The trans and rear wont have a problem with the power. The two bolt mains would likely go first but I may never even turn it past 9 psi for the street. 700-800 should be more than enough for most cases and turn it up occasionally for that full send pass.

If you've already got a rear and trans setup then it'll drop the price, you just didn't list it in your original post.

Some up and forward headers, VS Racing S475 clone, a large wastergate (I'd spend money on a quality one, just me), a VS blowoff valve, fab up a hotside from 2.25" mild steel, some cold side pipes, no intercooler needed for race gas at that power level although it is nice insurance, a home built water/meth kit (look up forcefed86's setup) and a capable ignition system. This is where it gets interesting. You will get the most out of the setup all around with lots of timing control. A home built crank trigger setup (look up Turbo John on youtube for ideas there) and LS coils controlled by Microsquirt would be cheap and simple. You'll need a MAP, IAT and ECT sensors for input as well. If that car is 3000lbs with driver, 750-800 whp will get you high 8's, if your chassis can manage it. That 400 should make enough power at 15-20 psi to meet your goals. Very curious to see how the block handles it. Maybe an engine diaper would be money well spent. Camaros aren't cheap. Post a build thread in here. Lots of talent around this place.
