Default Frostbite Intercooler experiences

Hello All,

Shopping for an intercooler for my supercharged LS I am building and ran across Frostbite. I just bought a frostbite radiator and it seems well made. I have done some internet research and haven't ran across too many review. Curious if anyone has had in success or issues with these. They are a little on the cheap side that's why I'm curious.

Thanks.

They are trash, I saw a video of a guy who had one on his 5th gen with torq storm blower, he was losing 7lbs of boost through the intercooler on a frostbite intercooler. Went from 11 lbs on the blower side to about 3lbs of boost in the intake.

While I don’t have any personal experience, I’ve read about issues too. While I don’t remember exactly what was wrong, It made me put that brand into my “ never use them” category. LOL

Summit Racing has IC now. If you have a problem, They have great customer service. It might be worth giving them a shot or at least looking into it.

Intercoolers are one of those items where spending more can yield big benefits.
I ran a 4" core CX Racing unit in my last turbo car and it worked very well for the price point, lots of guys run Treadstone for middle of the road price wise, then Garrett, Bell and Shearer would be top shelf brands.
Pressure drop and efficiency are what you want to be paying attention to, as you pay more you get less drop and more cooling.

Do you know what intercooler it was? There are so many different sizes.. if he ran one that was too small it definitely would yield those results...especially one that is too small, which could have been his issue on something such as a torq storm blower(something that isn't moving a whole lot of air).

That seems excessive. Did he forget to take the shop rag out of it?

I'd like to know more about the specifics before I'd believe a boost drop like that.

My understanding was that frostbite was a knock off cheap quality but at a high price. Think champion but with a high end Dewitt’s price. I haven’t been happy with hooker quality and to me they seem like the conglomerate that buys up smaller quality brands and uses them up while reducing quality till the name isn’t worth anything. The frostbite looks like China knockoff but as USA made price.

Can you explain the 'USA made price'? They are considerably cheaper than name brand stuff.

All IC'ers should be blown out before install, you should see some of the crap that comes out of them. Obs. if in the budget, a high quality one prob. provides the best results. I am running a large 4" thick Summit one, for my purpose, it does fine.

Those are radiators.. not intercoolers.
