Default Barrel style intercooler

Long Flow Style Water to Air Intercooler (frozenboost.com)
Has anyone run one of these style intercoolers. I dont have room for an A/A in the Hornet, I could mount this down low and run one of their radiators in front, with a boost act. pump. Maybe later make a small tank. Its more of a street deal, just to help keep the tune safe.
Kind of either this or just run a meth kit, lol.

Get ahold of “mufflerguy” on yellowbullet. He runs one on his Chevy II. Makes great power, no issues afaik.

You’ve certainly got me thinking about it now. My 3” a2a is doing absolutely nothing for me and I’ve been trying to figure out something else.

They are horrible. They utilize very little flow area compared to other standard core configurations
Be the last thing I'd use in a large displacement engine that has high flow volume, especially two in series

Maybe run one of them with a Killer Chiller cooling the coolant?

Muffler Guy runs the one I referenced, but said he made the waterlines larger, he makes north of 1000 HP, runs over 20 #'s boost, far more than I ever will, lol.

Bud runs one similar but square like below behind the passenger seat. His intake temps are in the high 80's at 24lbs with ice water. Might not be a great IC in terms of efficiency over the better A2W designs, but it works quite a bit better than the large 1245R Treadstone A2A I ran at 22ish lbs of boost (140's IAT for me). Same night at the track. (likely talking only 800ish whp levels though)

With those IATs it seems this little log type A2W cooler is WAY better than the tradiational A2A huge FMICs......

I would think with a Killer Chiller it'll be quite awesome.

It was on straight ice water changed out in between runs. No heat exchanger. If you aren't road racing, heat exchangers seem a bit excessive IMO. I'm never in boost for more than a few seconds at a time. Kick the pump on in boost only w/ a 5 gallon tank, ambient water, and cheap A2W setup and you'll be better than most A2A setups in my experience. Ice it at the track and you'll be MUCH better.

It's not the cooling that's a problem you better be on top of what the pressure drop is at high rpm

He must be using a lot of ice on that little unit, seems like a hassle. Was your turbo strung out on 22lbs or high ambient temps? Most setups I can't get over 115* on the tr1245 on 20lbs. After the tr1245 I spent $2000 to swap to the shearer air to water, water tank/pump, etc.. to see what the hype was about, but it only ran 15 degrees cooler than the cheap 1245 so I sold it all and run no intercooler

Shouldn't have been strung out at all. What turbo(s) were you seeing 115* with @ 20lbs?

Ambient was in the low 80's and at night. Would start around 100* and drop a little initially, then peaked around 140ish. Would hold 20ish to 6300 or so then creep to 22ish by 7300. VSR T6 80mm on a mild 4.8. Trapped 156 that night.

Used everything from F1A-94 to a billet 88mm with that core, didnt have any issues with IAT rising badly, I could make it get to 130* but it took more than 20lbs. But really on E85 I haven't noticed a difference pulling timing under 170 degrees so in the end it really doesn't matter.

I have seen the drop with initial speed as but generally when we are hooning or at the track its a bit cooler out, I don't like to stand around sweating.
