Been trying to talk myself out of a 78/75 in place of the stock muffler on 6-8lbs non intercooled myself! ( I want it for towing) 05 sierra 2wd 5.3. The transmission is my main big concern.

Why so big if its for towing? Seems like you could have something boost off idle practically to get the truck moving?

Instant torque down low. It's against everything we learn running SBE all out. But for a truck towing a load at the power level needed, it makes perfect sense. Think Ecoboost, only without the Ford aftertaste in your mouth.

I hear you. I'm sure it'll end up turbo'd eventually. Just made the thread for some banter and mess around. It'll either get my GT67 or my billet 7665 sitting on the shelf. It should light off quick and make good torque on a 4.8. I don't care if it runs out of breath at 6k.

Mainly cost. I had planned on a gt45 at first. I think the small .68 T4 78/75 for $270 would spool pretty quick and have a smaller foot print. I'm not aware of anything in that range for less really. A 61/65 would be better, but I'm not sure it's available in the smaller T4 and it costs more.

I don't know of anyone running the .68 T4 as a single. I have a pair of them I'm about to play with on the new build, and sold one to a buddy doing a low boost 1500 build. I'm curious to see how responsive it is with the baby exh. housing as a single.

I gotcha that's fair. It is tough to beat for the $. You want to try my GT67? I'll sell that cheap as I think I want to use the 7665 I have. It's the upgraded Garrett turbo that came with STS turbo kits.

I am going to part my truck out in the spring as its getting a little crusty and I hate rust. I bought a c10 on an awd escalade chassis roller to put the turbo kit on. Anyways, I will have some parts you may need if you decide to go through with it. Big china intercooler, cold side piping, gauge pods, etc.

Feel free to pm me if you want with any pics and prices. Can't hurt, but I also think I can do this for less than $1500 all in so I'm being pretty cheap about it

The passenger side battery tray (new) is only $26 shipped. I bought one for a flat level place to mount my homemade nitrous relay panel.

Nice link and pics. Thanks. I assume there is some extra battery cable kit needed right?

I'm considering something similar, currently putting together a 65 c10 , have an 06 4.8/ 4l80e for it and was considering using the cast 7875 from the 6L 68 on the otherwise stock 4.8 and upgrade to a next gen on 6L . Just finished building a pass side turbo manifold for a friend's monte carlo , made it by hacking up a spare driver's side manifold- not difficult and definitely cheap. If I can find a picture I'll put it up

All I know is that turbo gasoline engines tend to build a ton of heat up when you run them under a good load for extended times. Like around mountains. Make sure you run a bigger radiator, more fan, etc... I'm sure diesels do too when you turbo them, all the new ones have giant *** radiators and intercoolers from the factory for a reason.

No mountains in FL per say. It would just be an occasional tow, mostly just to play around with so i'm not worried about swapping rads.

after putting a snail on my camaro i'm tempted to do the same on my daily (2014 sierra). if you have the time, can afford it, and like to go fast ... why not?

Aint that the truth, just bombed down there again last weekend and loved feeling some 80 degree warmth coming from the snow.

Only reason I don't have a Chevy truck, all my spare parts would go on it. If my Ford gives up smoke its getting a 5.3 turbo.
