About the noise factor: I have about 8k miles on my D1SC - built in early 2005 with the straight cut gears. As it wears in, IMO, the whine is definitely getting louder. However, I have also installed a larger crank pulley and a smaller blower pulley along with the Aster Bracket, and a vented ATI Red race bypass valve. Those mods do increase noise factor. With the supplied 4.5 blower pulley included with the kit, blower rpm is much less than so the noise factor will be less than a 3 inch pulley and/or a larger crank pulley.
The black valve in the kit is not nearly as noisy as the bigger vented red bypass valve. With the black bypass valve you can recirculate back to the blower inlet hat. Doing that makes it quieter. You can also do the same with the vented red valve by running a hose from the valve back under to car to muffle the sound when not in boost.
For me, driveability also includes the noise factor.
At beginning and at end of video you can hear blower whine and the air from the bypass valve under idle when not making boost. It's about the same in the cabin until you go WOT - then its all motor.
The open bypass valve is crazy loud though. I built a enclosure around it with PVC pipe and now it is super quiet. Cant even tell its there.
The whine from the D1SC is a little noticable at idle, but honestly its not that bad. I originally thought it would be annoying but its not bad at all. And I have the straight cut gears. The helical gear would be even quieter.
