Default WG questions

LS 5.3, S475 BW T6 turbo, was going with 2 44 gates but was wondering if I could tie the hot side together and put a 50 mm WG at a 45 degree angle? This is a budget build and I was going with 2 VS Racing 44's but recently been looking at the Black Sheep piston style WG, no diaphragm, that is priced fairly reasonable at $350. From what I've found, they have good reviews. Wasn't sure how the twin scroll turbo would work with one but if I it was placed right I would think it'd be fine, what are the thoughts on this and has anyone used their products?

FWIW, I run two Wyntomn 44 mm gates on my fully divided setup with onboard air and have had zero issues and the accuracy of the boost control in bananas. Check out the priority in the pic. No input for the other style gate you’re thinking about nor any input on just using one. It might work.

I haven't used that style wg, but I have used a single Precision on a twin scroll Borg with no issues, but the placement is important.

Budget, but a $350 wastegate?
Wouldn't you need to do some tricky welding/plumbing to make the gate get equal flow?

I did mine similar to above, and with 2 VSR 44mm gates, and required piping to "loop" one gate's inlet, was still well under $350 and with nothing but "boost reference", and using a 4 port MAC valve w/my EBoost Street boost controller, can easily make anywhere from 4# to 22+# of steady, controlled boost.

Modified On3 crossover, for dual wastegates

Driver side wastegate and exhaust exit

Passenger side wastegate and exhaust exit

Complete, assembled, dual wastegate crossover installed

Dual gate exhaust exits, just peeking out from behind air deflector

So how long have you had the VS gates, any problems? That was what I was planning to do but everything you read on the forums is use a good WG. $350 is cheap compared to some of the top names and when you X that by 2 it gets into some $$$$.

I hear ya. I'm on a budget as well, and save when I can, and if it makes sense, to me.

I've ran my $99 (a piece) VSR 44's for a year, zero issues. My buddy has one, and my son, also uses a pair, with zero issues. Everyone I know here locally, runs them trouble-free as well, which is why I chose to buy & run them. There isn't really a whole lot to them, no matter who's name is on it.

FWIW, everyone also says you need a $400 Nick Williams throttle body too, but my $125 one from Warr Performance has been great for almost 4 years now. NA, nitroused, and now turbo.

Heck, my car may be faster with a $2500 big name turbo, but I guarantee I'll never find out, lol.

Good Luck. Whatever way you go.

Thanks, I'm going blow thru with a carb I'm building. I know carbs so that is what I'll start with. I've been looking at a Terminator X for later but that may never happen. Depends on how everything works out. I don't know nothing about setting one of those up.

Wyntonm actually produces a pretty good gate. I unbox them, lap the valve and have never had an issue. Twin 44's is a lot of gate for your combo, I'd look into twin 38mm gates.

If you’re looking at Black Sheep I’d definitely look into JGS precision they’ve been doing the piston WG deal longer than anyone else as far as I know. Personally I run VS racing and haven’t had any problems.

Twin 38's controls my 1200rwhp 6.2 single turbo setup no issues. Easier to package in a tight space also.
