Default What stator to start with?

Time to order my converter for the 4l80e. Using a PTC triple disc. I sent in the spec sheet, but want to hear real world experience. Heavy car 4,000 lbs plus. 3.73 gear, Gen IV 5.3 SBE. Cam, springs and trunnion upgrade. Starting with a Billet 78/75 and then putting on the VS480. Car is a street/strip car. I beat the crap out of my stuff. I don't mind revving the crap out of it, but need a little street manners. In other words I don't want it so loose it heats up the trans fluid driving around town. Power wise, I have a engine diaper for it . So I'll take it as far as I can. Guessing 800-900 whp.. So anybody run a heavy *** car?

Mines not that heavy, but I’d imagine a 16-0 or 17-0 (maybe). I had the $450 version of their 10” and it worked great. When I went to the glide, I went with the 9.5” and have no regrets. Totally streetable and “stalls” at 5500 under current power.

We need rel3rd to answer here, he's at that wieght and power 4l80e but not sure of gear. I'm at 4500 lbs or more depending on passengers , but only 600whp with 4l80e and 3.73 . Have a ptc single disc 258 mm they say is a 258Z 19 stator , works well and I like my stuff very streetable. I monitor trans temp and it rarely hits 190 which is about where the cooler fan comes on

As far as I know, they don’t make 9.5” lockup and the 10” has limited stators. I believe 19 and 15 will be your choice.

Well that'll narrow it down in a hurry. And yes, 10" is what it'll be. So 19 or 15?

You’ll have to ask Ptc. If it was an fti, I’d do 19b-100

If you follow any of the sloppy podcasts, he had Cesar on from the Horsepower factory. He said they use a PTC with I believe a 19. It's been a couple months since he was on, but most of his stuff is fairly heavy trucks, running 1000+.

No sir. They use a 9.5" 15-0 or 15-45 depending on power. The 9.5" is a different animal then the 258mm.

In the PTC world I would say something like a 16-0 to an 18-0 +/- 1 each way wouldn't surprise me at all. I had a 16-0 in my PTC 9.5" non lock up on my 388" turbo fox mustang. It stalled to about 3700 but drove great and was very tight up top. I just had is refreshed and we loosened it just a hair to a 17-0. PTC suggested an 18-0 but I share your same concerns with street driving so I opted for the safe route and went with the 17-0.
