Default Boosted ls build

I’m looking to build a booster LS. New to all this. Not racing, but the build process, basically looking to get 800+HP. I been seeing a hearing that a stock ls motor will get 600+ just on boost but how many times and how long it will last is the problem. it won’t be a track car. Street! So I’ll have AC and etc. can anyone guide me in the right direction, right now I have about $8,300 to put towards my car build! Thanks in advance.

What car? Automatic or Manual? A good way to start learning is to head to turbo LS school aka Richard Holdener on YouTube.

Almost any bone stock LS engine will handle 800hp all day long. Just choose how many CI you want and aluminum or iron block. ARP head bolts or studs, LS9 gaskets, DOD delete (if equipped), high flow oil pump, LS7 lifters or Johnson 2110s, and send it.

Nice find!

The 80E can definitely hold your desired HP and then some, gonna take a couple of bucks to do it though. Read up on gapping piston rings for boost so you can make a choice on wether to do it or not. There are many opinions and thoughts on both options to say the least. Definitely leave the crank and main bearings alone, no need to mess with that at all.

That starting point will make it so easy you feel like you cheated. As someone else said, the 4l80 will end up needing work. Even though they are rated bone stock for 700ftlbs of torque, you will eventually weld some clutch packs. I would not bother opening it up until that happens, however. As has also been said, the choice of whether or not to open up the ring gaps is a highly debated topic that you should research. My personal opinion involves changing the valvesprings and pushrods, boosting it, and letting it eat. Obviously boost appropriate sparkplugs would be involved.

I dont know if the guy is trying to hustle me or what. But he said he pulled the lq9 from a 05 Escalade with the 4l80 transmission, but all the research I have done escaldes only come with a 4l60. So I’m wondering if it’s a lq4 and he’s trying to tell me it’s an lq9

the 60e and the 80e are super easy to tell apart, so just be sure and get some pictures. You definitely do not want the 60E.

so I decided on an lq9. What can I do to it to make the 800+ HP? and yes that’s with boost. I’m definitely boosting the motor!

Easy. Now, remember what I said about ring gapping. Decide on what you want to do on that issue. Then, pick a turbo that's capable of making 800+ HP. Install it on your LQ9. Get 4L80E build to handle 800 HP+. Pick a camshaft that optimizes your cars intended goal. The weight, eventual torque converter, gear ratio will factor in. Maybe upgrade the valve springs depending on the cams lift. Get car tuned. Sounds easy because it is... sorta.

Check out some Richard Holdener's vids on YouTube, very helpful for LS beginners.
